  1. That same mod works on an Echo, and it's a piece of ***** to do. I did it so I wouldn't get a ledge of dust accumulating on it.
  2. There is a replica of one that is rallied in SE QLD. It goes quite hard and the owner is a very good steerer.
  3. I can't agree with you on that one, any twisting of the rear torsion beam will result in inducing torsion in those bars. In effect, they help stiffen the rear torsion beam (which in it's self is one giant sway bar). They do not necessarily have to be mounted to the body, it will depend on the design.
  4. There is an Audi Quattro rally car being built just north of Brisbane atm, It will be brilliant to see when it's finished. I don't think it will be in Group B spec though.
  5. When we went to pick up our new Prado on 05, we were told that the sales girl had just taken it down to the servo to put some fuel in it and would be back in a couple of minutes. 15 minute later she turned. She had filled BOTH tanks, 180 litres in total. :D We didn't have to put petrol in it for about 2 months.
  6. Yes, I think that is the main cause of the problems, but then again, if the foot of a standard Bilstein or Koni can withstand rallying, why can't a 40mm DMS shock? Are the 40mm ones still an inverted design?
  7. lol, that's pretty funny. This might help put it into perspective a little. DMS vs MCA thread from Brindabella Forum.
  8. Until you know the circumstance at which that coilover broke (eg, the guy hit a gutter head on?)and it's history (whether in a street only car or a rally car), it is a moot point. MCA make some of Australia's best off road and rally suspension and this is how the bottom of their struts are made. They have been proven time and time again and if it didn't work, it most definately would have been changed before now.
  9. As stated above, larger injectors will make things worse. I would not touch the headers as they are designed for max torque which is what you want for highway cruising. A good clean of the maf maybe worthwhile if it hasn't been done in a while. Also check for worn wheel bearings, dragging brakes and correct oils being used in the engine and gearbox. How many kms has the car done?
  10. If it still drives fine with the AC off, then I would be looking towards the compressor and AC system. Does it throw the check engine light at all? When was the maf last cleaned? When was the auto last serviced (full flush and filter change etc)?
  11. They effectively both do the same thing, just mounted in different ways.
  12. NA8 MX5 rims on my Echo. They are nice and light too.
  13. They pop up on ebay every now and then, just keep your eye out. Or, early MX5 rims fit as well. Or corolla rims etc.
  14. Just a word of warning guys, if you do want to enter, places are limited and they usually fill up pretty quickly. It is best if you fill out an entry form at least with some basic details (name, car etc) and email or fax it in to reserve a spot.
  15. I'm not usually a fan of non-factory colours but I actually don't mind that one.
  16. Pulled my front struts out last night, got to take them back to the guy that made them to have them modified so I am no longer running -3 degrees of camber. Started setting out the fascia for my new light pod.
  17. :D It expect it will be a rare occasion for me to be changing up gears at anything less than 5000 rpm (unless going down hill) during competition. But then again, I don't except my clutch to last more than 5000 kms anyway :P .
  18. Don't even have to drop the box on a 900 series Saab ;) Those Sweed's actually did something right.
  19. Agreed. GTiR pulsars would have to be the worst. Old ('86-'90) model Saabs by far the best (takes all of about half an hour).
  20. Yeh, $150-$300 on a clutch kit depending on what type/brand you want, a day with someone with the tools and the knowledge, a six pack and some music is a much better proposition to me as well. But not everyone has the time, skill, tools, intestinal fortitude (nor the spare beer) to be able to do it themselves. :)
  21. Best of luck, price sounds reasonable, there's nothing really tricky on an Echo so you shouldn't have any dramas.
  22. Stock 2NZ at the moment, 2 x 1NZ's in the shed waiting (one will be put in stock while the other gets built up on the side when funds allow). The engine and gearbox are about the only thing that's still stock (for the time being anyway) but pretty much everything else has been tickled to some extent, some things alot more than others. Come up to the rally at Yarraman (look in the Events Section) and find out :) .
  23. I spent last night cutting my drivers door trim around the roll cage so the door would close properly .
  24. If anyone is interested in rallying in any way, shape or form, Northern Districts Sporting Car Club have a club rally on up at Yarraman (1.5 hrs north west of Brisbane) this Saturday and anyone is welcome to pop up and see what it's all about. Spectating and wandering around service park costs nothing. Feel free to bail up anyone from the rally community and you will more than likely find that they are only too happy to talk your ear off about rallying (even more so if you hang around til dark when the event finishes and the lager starts to flow). It's a good quality fun event, no sheep stations to win or competitive egos to contend with. A 38 car field with a wide variety of cars from an "almost" mid engined Datto 1200 coupe driven by Former Australian Rally Champion Murray Coote, through to a couple of early Evo's with antilag (and including no less than 6 Toyotas including myself). There will be a speccie point which is not far away from the amenities (toilets, hot food and drinks) of the Service Park, which is only 2km out of town itself. For more info, just ask, or follow the following links. Entry List - http://www.ndscc.asn.au/web_images/entry%2...%20oct%2009.pdf Spectator_Instructions_2009_October_1.pdf Cheers, Rob.
