  1. I'd pull the coilover from the car, disassemble it on a bench (lock the two spring collars together and use the spanner to undo the damper from the bottom foot), clean the threads with a wire brush and grease the threads up and reassemble. Aluminium will cold weld itself together as it corrodes, grease, lanolin oil, anti-seize etc will prevent it from happening.

    Project 5S-GTE

You can't hone the bore out and get new rings to suit? I've never liked chrome rings, they can be bitches to get them to bed in properly and heard too many horror stories.
  3. Oh god, please don't go anywhere near the glass with a razor blade or scraper. ESPECIALLY on toughened glass like in your side and rear windows. A clay bar will remove light enamel or acrylic over spray (but struggles with 2pac overspray). Or get some quality paint thinners and it will remove it easily (don't let the thinners get on your paint work though). I had to remove 2 pac overspray from my entire car, it took forever, but not once did I have to resort to a scraper or sanding the paint.
  4. I'm chasing a TRD rebuild kit for an AW004 TRD lsd (used in fwd corollas, levins, starlets, Vitz's some MR2s etc), actually I only need two of the plates so if anyone has some spares lying around, that would be considered as well. Failing that, I will probably order a kit from Japan so if anyone else is after one, let me know and I'll grab a couple. Cheers, Rob.
  5. Not exactly "on" my car, but to do with my car. Man the smell of gearbox oil stays in your skin for days.
  6. Started pulling apart both a C150 (Echo) gearbox and a C56 (Levin) gearbox to see if I can make a close ratio box for the Echo by using the C56 ge****t and final drive. The C56 diff will also allow me to use the TRD lsd that I have sitting at home. Oh, and stuff washing it, it's only going to get dirty again in 2 weeks.
  7. Not when you are doing over 100km/hr with big ***** gum trees only 2 metres away from you. :P
  8. Thanks, me too. I didn't get around to having the light pod finished in time though . $1000 worth of hid spotties and I still don't get to use them.

    Prado

I have a 4.0 Petrol GX 120 series, 6 speed manual and tow a rally car on a car trailer (1500-1700kg all up) frequently up into the hills. Even lost the trailer brakes on a trip up to Rockhampton when a rock punctured the brake line. That required a bit of extra pedal effort to pull it all up. The reverse gear in my manual is too tall, you end have having to slip the clutch alot when reversing the trailer. If I was to replace my Prado today, it would be with a TD auto, and I hate autos.
  10. Spent the long weekend preparing the car for the next rally which is on this weekend (half an hour south of Gatton Qld). I cleaned the car, fitted the camelbacks, made a brake master cylinder brace, raised the suspension to give me 170mm of ground clearance under the sump guard, gave it a wheel alignment to fix up the change in toe due to the height change, fitted a map light and fitted an interior flouro light. Bring on the weekend!
  11. Sweet, shame it's about $1000 more than I want to pay for an experiment that may not even work :(.
  12. Bugger, I need to get out more. But a certain unmarked Ralliart Lancer doesn't like me driving my car on the road and be buggered if I'm going to tow it there.
  13. You have one in your car, or you have a spare one you may want to part with? From what I can find out, the ge a r set is the same as in the C160 so I may be able to use it.
  14. I'm not saying they are "unsafe", just that is is less than ideal. Unfortunately, the only way to get more engagement is to install longer wheel studs. If you are concerned, then do as the RAC advised, write to the supplier of the wheels and have them state in writing their view on the matter. Make sure your wheels are listed on your insurance policy and make sure you keep a copy of the reply from the supplier with it.
  15. I'm chasing a C160 6 speed gearbox. Preferably a broken one (if they exist) as I just want the gear set from it. And preferably without an lsd as I already have one to suit. Cheers, Rob.
  16. Ideally, you want the same engagement onto the thread as the diameter of the stud. IE. M12 stud - you want about 12mm of engagement. M12 x 1.5 pitch stud (typical for Toyota) equals 8 turns of the nut (12/1.5 =8). 5.5 turns of the nut times 1.5mm pitch = 8.25mm of engagement which is not ideal.
  17. Those figures aren't kerb weight figures. A dirty maf sensor will dull performance greatly and could be the difference being felt.
  18. I run Lucas pads on the front of my rally car, haven't even been able to get them to the green fade stage yet either and they haven't caused any "moments" yet.
  19. Attached is the components page for the rear drum which may or may not be of any help. comp.pdf
  20. It's all relative. Everything is good, until you try something better. For 90% of the weekend racers, products like BC's and K Sports will probably be fine. It's only when you make the move to the next level up in suspension that you realise their weak points.
  21. Further to my previous mention of a grass motorkhana on 6th March, if anyone does want to come and have some fun, you can download the entry form and Supp Regs from here: http://www.ndscc.asn.au/index.php?p=2_1. If you have any question, shoot me an email or pm or join up on the NDSCC forum and ask away. Or even if you don't want to compete, you are welcome to come up and watch or jump in people's cars and go for a ride (for free). Cheers, Rob.
  22. I definately won't be there. The car is in getting the Air con gassed up. :D
