  1. i saw a new aurion in sydney, It was a presara. I would have to say that the looks of the car is stupid. The previous aurion looked nothing like a camry, and was a car of its own with unique lines. This thing looked exactly like a 2012 camry, totally wrong, and it looked outdated.... no where near as modern. Such a shame, becuase its a great car with awesome features. Toyota messed this one up

Knew you would say that. I agree with you as I just saw one just now on my walks outside work. I nearly puked my lunch out when I saw the new Sportivo driven past me. Dear gods above, the design was so wrong! And it looked smaller than my old car did!

  2. Had a look at the Aurion website. That is a lot of kit for a base model negating the need for Touring models which was actually a combination of both ATX and SX6 if I remember correctly.

Although I really don't know if i like the big gaping fog light surrounds on sportivo variants.... 1st time I have seen AT-X not having fog lights as an option! Plus the rear end...shudders me a lot. And is it me or the new Aurion is wider than the old model?

Adamsy can you provide the picture of this Sports Combitron as I haven't heard of it before? Online brochure isn't up yet.

  3. Does anyone have an opinion as to how much prices will drop on our superseded models when the new aurion hits?

Good question cos this is what I read in car sales for cars in WA (I am from WA)

    http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/results.aspx?base=1216&vertical=Car&eapi=2&N=904+1527+1246+1247+1252+4294962861+4294889509+1216+4294768577+4294739933&silo=Stock&Range=Price:Min,Max~0.5&sort=default

My previous car before it's write off was Toyota Aurion Touring SE like that one in my profile pic. When I bought it, it was $33 k back in 2010. Now it's $31 k or thereabouts. I expect this to drop a bit more come June/July for EOFYS (End Of Financial Year Sales for those who doesn't know sales talk).

Also I saw recently about Sportivo variants price drops!

  4. *shudders at the rear tail lights* That's it! I am not getting an Aurion with THAT rear lights! Although those are in ATX form! I wonder what SX6 and ZR6 lights will be like as well as Touring.

Now it is starting to make more sense to go and get the run out Touring Aurions!

  5. Huh? Are they out already??? Could have sworn i saw a truck carrying new Aurions that looked slightly different to the current Aurions go past me. I thought they were due out in March?
Yep, they're out. Couple of dealers in Perth already have demonstrators available for test drives and such.
Hmm... Looks like I'll need to drive out and have a look.

Yeah I will also have a look on the long weekend here in perth. If i don't like it, back to what I had before come June as it is EOFYS that time meaning cheaper prices. They may run out the old MY10/11 models come June this year. Just 4 more months hurry up Father Time!

  6. Id rather the Supercharged Toyota Crown Majesta 4.6L V8 (1UR-FSE) RWD ANYDAY over any othese cars :P Made in Japan 311 KW is goodbye XR6T :P and has a bar fridge to drink and drive hahaha (joking) These engines are 100% bullet proof! Anycar made in Australia is poor quality. Sorry about your TRD mate!

You made me google on that car! Bland look but a good engine! Now I really wish TRD had that engine!

  7. + Me too on the SV6.

My mate has 1 and its just so cheap on the inside and caused him nothing but hassel after hassel.

Cheap plastics that scratch with a finger nail.

The A pillers are so big you can't see the corners when turning.

Pretty much don't buy it but its your choice.

Admittedly I didn't test drive the Holden SV6 series 2 ones. From what everyone is saying, are you all talking about VE series one models?

Yeah I'm talking about the series 1 but seeing the series 1 and 2 side by side I honestly see no difference apart from the front bumper and the wheels.

You forgot the Holden (lack of) IQ system. Whoop dee doo.... That, and SiDi. The sportwagons have beautiful lines though. Pity bout the overall build quality :(

The sportswagon is what I am aiming for but hmmm maybe I can wait for the VF next year! I have also decided to wait and see what the new Aurion that is due out next year looks like in flesh as well! A pity there isn't an Aurion wagon...oh wait the Klugers but they are thirsty beasts!

As someone who was driving a Sportswagon before getting an Aurion, I have to say I miss the ability to carry awkward, large-ish items. If the Aurion had a wagon version, I'd probably have gone for that.

As it turns out, I've pretty much made up my mind to look towards getting a wagon as my next car. If there's an Aurion Presara Wagon, I'd probably end up getting that. If there isn't one, I'll probably look at something like a Skoda Superb Wagon 125TDI (about the same price as a Presara atm).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing the Holden Sportswagons. Great looking, drives great, corners like it's on rails, but build quality, resale and reliability isn't at a level where I'm comfortable with.

I've had falcons and commodores and there standards are nowhere near the Aurions. Toyota's are way more reliable, better quality, and way more powerful and fuel efficient. (the Aurion that is) I think that my Aurion is even better than my BMW 740Li ! The dash parts, buttons, vinal, "fake wood grain dash components" are all falling apart and coming loose, its all rubbish! and the reliability of my BMW is beyond recognition. i love toyota, the end.whistling.gif

Thank god a number of people do agree with me - Aurion should get a wagon version. I am surprised the Camry/Aurion managed to last so long without a wagon for a large number of years since they dumped it back in er...late 90's or early 2000's? If Toyota Australia wakes up and offers us the wagons, I would buy it in a heart beat as long as it looks a lot better than Holden Sportswagon! I do agree with the above about the fuel efficiency and the reliability.

The Aurion being stuck in a sedan form is well...not right in terms of practicability e.g. transporting 2 dogs in the back seat of Aurion is a receipe for disaster (I should know as I tried to do this with the magna sedan years ago!). I mean look at Holden Sportswagon and Skoda Superb and Mazda 6 wagons (ok not in the same engine category but you get the meaning), they pulled it off well. Ford suffered big time as result of axing of Ford wagons but their Mondeo wagons are making up ground.

Also there is no diesel option for the Aurions as well which is a real reason why we haven't been selling in large numbers. But that may change cos I heard recently about BMW and Toyota having partnership, BMW getting the hybrid tech and Toyota getting better diesel engines.

That's my 2 cents and if the Aurion does get the diesel engine in V6 form AND have it in wagon, that is the ultimate car for us all Toyota guys right?

  10. Hi a couple of weekends ago, I crashed my Aurion which was barely 18 months old. The insurers has written it off (even it does look repairable...it was the steering components that is royally rooted).

Right now I am waiting for insurance payout so I can get another car ASAP. Unfortunately my car was bought with car loan the insurance will pay that out and the remaining goes to me. I will of course apply for another loan but only until after my holidays.

And of course i will get another Aurion because I can't get enough of fuel economy itself for its power class. But however the Holden Commodore SV6 seems to be winning me over with the 5 year warranty (Holden does them now!) and capped servicing prices. So for now I hope to get a good Aurion.

I will be returning to this forum if I got another Aurion.

  11. Thought I share my story on long weekend's drive in W.A.

Friday 28th October is Queen's Birthday Public Holiday and also the start of CHOGM in Perth.

9:45am - filled the tank with 91 RON at Gull petrol station in Burswood then hit Graham Farmer Freeway to Mitchell Freeeway north.

10am - picked up mate in Stirling. Tank is still full.

10:05am - hit Mitchell Fwy South to drive all the way to Bunbury for the day

11am thereabouts - exited Kwinana Fwy into Forrest Hwy....tank was still full at this stage despite 140+ driving at 100kmh speed limit. Forrest Hwy goes up to 110kmh so I set cruise control at the point. Also at this point, my car managed to hit 7.l litre per 100km and it stayed that way from Freeway to Highway.

20kms outside Bunbury, the fuel tank needle dipped slightly but still at 7.1 litre per 100km

12pm - arrived Bunbury. Driving around to see if there is any places open for lunch during public holiday.

1pm - Arrived at Mash Brewery near the ports of Bunbury for lunch. Needle dipped a bit more. Avoid this place if you want to have good pub food, go to the Reef pub in the town centre of Bunbury. I got burnt chicken parma!!!

2:30pm - drive around Bunbury and going to look out tower. Fuel needle has hit slightly above 1st quarter mark.

3pm - drive thru Australind then back to Old Coast Hwy which leads back to Forrest Hwy. This section was speed limited to 70kmh so it did eat into the fuel a bit. Hit the 1st quarter mark at this point of time. Fuel economy at this time I remember was about 7.8 litres per 100km

3:30pm - hit Forrest Hwy and the fuel ecconomy dropped back down to 7.4-7.5 litres per 100km

5:30pm - Dropped mate back home at stirling. Fuel needle was well over the half way mark. Fuel economy goes back up to 7.8 litres per 100km

6pm - Arrived back home. Fuel needle just slightly above the half way mark. Fuel economy shot back up to 8.0 litres per 100km

From there it stayed like that until this morning when I needed to put in petrol but only put in $30 worth of petrol as it was enough for me until next week.

I will upload the photo later tonight when I get home.

  12. I ran out of fuel yesterday! When I started my car it read quarter of tank of fuel left but the range was 11km. I was baffled by that and decided to test it out. I eventually did run out of fuel just 20 mins after leaving home. I wasn't flooring anything at all. I was driving like a nanny. So when I said on 13th September which was a Tuesday, it went down to empty just 5 days later. I was in fact driving a lot on the weekend so yeah the fuel readings baffled me a lot. No warning light! I did run out of fuel just as I was getting into BP petrol station.

The question is: why didn't the low fuel light come on at the start up and why did the fuel gauge reading say quarter of tank left but the trip computer says 11 kms range left to go to empty? some people says 30kms left to go, the warning light comes on. I am kinda confused what just happened.

For your query, my car is 2010 Toyota Aurion (built April 2010 bought October 2010). I am thinking the fuel sensor must be dirty?

  13. Thanks for the replies. Good to know that it's normal. I really thought I could push at least 550 before I even saw the fuel light come on.

I ended up filling up at about 520 and at that time on the trip computer it said I have about 13KM left.

Actually I had just filled my car up with Shell V-Power 98 RON and I can say it isn't all that cracked up to begin with. True you might get a bit more performance out of it but it comes at an expense to fuel economy. I agree with that spreadsheet above here.

I had 91 RON from Shell 3 weeks ago and it lasted me that long for 3 weeks around town! I am switching back to Shell 91 RON then BP Ultimate to "clean" the interior then switch back to 91 RON and so on.

Waitaminute. I'm confused now. Do you consume less fuel over the same distance if you use 91 RON as opposed to 98 RON? I thought with the higher octane rating, you use less?

Anyway with Shell V-Power 98 RON fluctuating between $1.07 and $1.25 per litre, I'm probably going to start using 91 RON more and more now. Fuel costs are starting to get stupid :( .

Where do you live? I'm lucky to get 91 without E10 for $1.35!

I live in Victoria Park W.A. and the V-Power 98 RON is $1.40 to $1.58 a litre depending location of the cheapest to expensive Shell stations. With 98 RON from Shell I used up fuel in just 2 weeks but when I had 98 RON from BP Ultimate, the fuel range actually increases thus using less fuel. I don't know why they are different. I always goes to Shell for 91 RON petrol and they are usually $1.25 to $1.35 a litre, again depending on the location of the cheapest to expensive Shell stations. I would avoid Gull and Caltex petrols as both seems to be using more fuel than Shell or BP does when using 91 RON.

For the record, I get 9.5 per 100kms when going for a long drive on freeway to bunbury and back. In combined cycle, it's 9.8 to 10.5 per 100km. Right now since I have filled up just last wednesday, I am between 3rd quarter and half tank mark on the cluster. That was with 98 RON V-Power and I expect it to be gone by next wednesday (confirming the 2 week fuel usage)

  14. Thanks for the replies. Good to know that it's normal. I really thought I could push at least 550 before I even saw the fuel light come on.

  15. The strongest non HID light for H11 is Osram Nightbreaker so try them for your fogs. The washer is located on the bumper not the headlight itself.

That's what I thought about the Nightbreaker being used on foggies. I will do that one.

I understand now about the washer on the bumper. Alright what was the strongest non-HID for the low beam? Someone mentioned they used CrystalVision on their car without needing to convert to HID as a way of saving their $$$$. But from where i am reading on the website, 4300K sounds like it is a HID globe and not the actual Halogen? Sorry for the question but I am thinking of upgrading the lighting while the car is in repairers on the week of 4th july.

The strongest for low beam which is H11 is still Osram Nightbreaker. 4300k just means the temp the light is. You see halogen claiming to be 6000k as well but that's just colour not intensity. A dark blue coating on the light bulb making the light look more white.

You can buy H11 nightbreakers here with free shipping and a pair of free W5W lights. You can ask for the blue W5W instead of the standard clear.

Ah sorry I was so busy that I forgot to reply to this post! Hmm that link looks good. I will buy them soon before the car goes into the repairers in 2 weeks!
