I dont think that is nessisarily the truth. I think the best thing to do is find a dealership (and a service advisor) you like (ideally the one you buy the car from) and build a relationship with them. I do agree there are some dodgey mechanics out there but they are not exlusive to dealership (or private) workshops. However if you dont have any luck with a local dealer a private workshop can be the best way to go.

If it looks like a fuel bowser with a dotted line underneath it's the fuel sedimentor light and doesnt need a scan too to clear it. You will need to drain or possibly replace your fuel filter.

Timing belts will usually add AT LEAST 1 hour on to service time plus the belt is usually $90.00ish so straight up theres and extra $220.00 on top of a basic service price but as is perviousply mentioned in most moddles post 2000 they are only done at 150,000kms service if they are fitted at all.

Min 15k/1year between services, but more often is better.
