  1. Yeah I used the little trainge piece like in your blue-tack photo. Alpine supply 3 mounting options so I used to ones that direct the sound toward the driver/passenger. I messed up a little bit as the angle is pointing slightly down but they sound great. Still need to get pics for you

If I managed to get my hands on a set of those triangular panels (e.g. from a wreckers) from a corolla that has "a 6 speaker sound system" (in other words just the tweeters included with a mounting point on the triangular panels), would after-market tweeters fit in those factory mounting points???

  2. i couldnt be bothered removing all the rice ive added to my conquest, id rather go to the trouble of adding a 6speed so i got an extra gear 2 play with hahahaha!

other than that, (going on another tangent) regardless of how much it would cost, is it at all possible to install sportivo engine, trans, etc into a non stivo??

im guessing thats a stupid question, but is there anything in the 1zz that would prevent a successful 2zz conversion?

No offence mate but I think ur wasting ur money wen u could spend the same amount n upgrade to a Sportivo. But hey its ur car n ur money so fair enough. In my humble opinion if u wanna spend the money and are lazy do wat CORZZA did n find a good car dealer that will trade ur car in for a sportivo in transfer ur mods for u. ;) :) :D

  3. It is legal to go below your speed symbol as long as it doesn't go to a speed rating less than 140kph (I can't remember what the letter for this is). But technically you must have a little sticker on the bottom right hand side of ur windshield clearly indicating your speed rating is below factory tyres. I read this in an RTA online pdf file which was posted in this forum once but I cannot find it at the moment. But if I do find it I will re-post it.

    EDIT

    I found that article:

RTA - Vehicle Standards Information - Guidelines for alternative wheels and tyres

Here is the part you were enquiring about:

  4. if you go in to the shop and mention a few names and the club then you should be able to get the cai and the pod filter for that price ...

again .. there are many syd members happy to help install .. and everyone I know who has a Shift CAI has been very happy with it .. including myself ..

also to add .. make sure you speak to Sal ..

I know this has been argued before but is this legal in NSW??? (is the exposed pod filter deemed to be "outside the engine bay" when it is mounted near the fog light? n can u get away with it if it is a dry filter instead of an oiled one?)

Dont know where the line is ... really not black or white ..

ive had a cop look under my bonnet and he didnt care ... but im sure others would kick a stink up about it ..

and we arent at the point where we have to get the car checked at rego time yet ..

in regards to the oiled or non oiled .. are you asking that for legal reasons too ?? or just what we are using ?

The oiled or not question was also about the legality cos apparently it is legal in Victoria if it is a dry filter (non oiled)

  6. gday TOCAU,

my internet at home is currently with a small company called EMPCOM.

When i joined with them, my monthly internet started at $25 to $35 depending on usage. (depended on if i went over 1gig or not). this was on 256kbps/64kbps. slow for adsl standards but as long as its broadband, the wife is happy.

the $35 gives me a maximum of bout 5gigs per month.

internet use has been solid - no disconnections or disruptions of any kind, although i would have to email them to find out exactly how many gigs i am using each month. with telstra, you can find out pretty easily, but with empcom it was pretty difficult. so basically its a no frills internet service, but its gonna get expensive now!

my plan has already increased in price to a minimum of $35-$55/month since i joined, but luckily my contract with them means i still only pay a minimum of $25 until april when my contract expires.

i recieved an email late last year saying they will increase their prices even further, so im on the look out for another ISP that would give me a fair price on whats probebly the slowest speed of adsl you can get.

so if you are using a reliable isp that offers a fair price on ADSL, if you can recommend them here please?!?

they would have to service western sydney though.

    thanks for your help.

  7. All CAI's are great :D I bought my Drift Urethane pod today, $36.00 bargain!

Grima did you get into the uni course you wanted?

Hey dude thanks for the interest. Well offers come in tonight at 9pm (on the Universities Admission Center website) so I'm not totally sure yet but the entry to my course was a UAI of 89.15 last year and I got 96.30 so I'm pretty sure I've got in (but I'll confirm tonight).

    Cheers,

    Jared :)

EDIT: Sorry about straying off topic ppl

  8. Hey I know this may seem like a stupid question but did ur tail lights come like that or did u put a globe in urself for the light closest to the inside (the red one) to light up. Cos im pretty sure they dont come like that from the factory (well mine doesnt light up)???

  11. In the Corolla AWD the engine is mounted "east to west" not "north to south" like what RWD cars (and other AWD systems such as Subaru's AWD cars) have so unless u have A SH!T-LOAD of money to replace the chasis n do some mods to the firewall and play around with everything like that you can't really make a RWD out of the rolla (but nothing is impossible). O btw that corolla with the 3S-GTE still has an "east to west" engine mount. This may sound very confusing but with AWD's that have a "east west" engine mounting the front diff separates the drive between the front n rear wheels due to the lack of a centre diff so it is still pretty much a front wheel controlled car albiet with limited drive to the rear wheels. Whereas AWD's with a "north south" engine mounting have a centre diff which can accordingly split drive between the front n rear diff accordingly and are more of a true AWD (or 4WD). Sorry if this is not all 100% correct as I am no expert (so correct me if any part of this was wrong). And sorry if I have confused ppl im not the best at explaining this.

  12. Hi all.

I’m a mechanically-challenged prof from Canada moving to Australia in July, 2007 for a one-year sabbatical. During my time there, I plan to travel extensively, visited some rather off-the-beaten-track spots. It’s been recommended in several sources that a 4WD vehicle would be a great benefit and I’ve been looking at the used Toyota Hilux. A cursory search of several Australian sites suggests that for about $8000, I can get 6-8 year old vehicle. I have several questions about the Hilux that I’d like to pose to users.

    1. Is my price estimate realistic and if not, how far off am I?

    2. Acknowledging that Toyota has a great reputation for reliability and performance, what are the most common problems I can expect?

    3. What kind of gas mileage should I expect?

    4. What are the best sources for finding used Hiluxes (Hili?) in the Canberra area where I’ll be moving initially?

    5. Do you know of a reputable mechanic in the Canberra area who could inspect the vehicle prior to purchase?

    6. Are there advantages (e.g., warranty laws) to buying from a dealer?

    7. How much should I expect to pay for insurance for a 50-year old male with no tickets and no accidents, who hasn’t had insurance in Australia?

    8. I plan to re-sell the car when I leave. Is this an easy or difficult thing to do? Are there organizations that facilitate this sort of arrangement?

    Thanks

    1. Im not 100% sure on price but for $8000 you'll only get 6-8 yr old version in 2WD as 4WD is significantly more.

  13. Hey all,

I've lowered my facelift sportivo using King Springs thru Ozzy Tyres but I'm getting plenty of guard rub when I have just 1 or 2 extra passengers riding with me.... :(

I recently fitted 17 x 7 Lenso AGS Racing wheels :) and drove around for a while with the stock suspension (I've got 225/45/17 tyres on there) - the car felt really unsettled and nervous with the change in wheels so I decided it was time for a lowering job to improve the ride. Finally I got it dropped 2" all around and was happy with the ride quality until I had 4 people in the car last sat night - The thing scrubs up like crazy... and its driving me nuts

Would rolling the guards eliminate this?? Or should I just get rid of these spings and std shocks and go coilovers??? The ride isn't stiff enough, so I'm thinking coilovers.... What do you guys think??

    Thanks

    elbowz17 ;)

Check out the link below and you'll see that ur rolling diameter is out as well as the fact that your tyres are as stated above too wide for this car... I would go back and complain n get them to change your tyres to an appropriate profile such as 205/45R17 or 215/40R17
