You said "choose to be different" - things like skin colour etc aren't choices. _Choosing_ to be different (say becoming a Goth, or living in the bush away from technology) and then complaining about the hassles and troubles of being different can be seen as hypocritical or crying for attention. Accepting your lot (both chosen and unavoidable) is one of the most important things people can learn. Just sayin'...

The issue is not being different, but what _kind_ of different you choose to be...different for different's sake is not always a good thing
