  1. A couple of cuts on my hands, but the Snoarer now has a fully functioning, refurbished, non-bleeding HVAC LCD screen, complete with uber-cool blue button lights. Bit of a mission to fit it (had to split the unit in half so I could pair the new front screen unit with the old rear brains unit otherwise fan-speed didn't work and the dash air-temp display was blank) and in traditional fashion I ended up with one spare screw, but anyone who has ever owned a Z30 Soarer will know how good a new LCD unit is (as the stock ones always bleed)

  2. Those requirements are pretty difficult, since aero top turbos only come in auto.

Technically US models had the option of a manual aerotop turbo (in quite limited numbers, and for only 1 or 2 years), but that wouldn't be very helpful for RHD Australia...
  3. A gain of a whopping 1.1kw! It isn't much, but it IS a gain.

That's not a gain. Max power figures on back-to-back dyno runs can vary by a couple of kw anyway, even with no changes to the car.

Also, that max-power indicator thingy is in completely the wrong spot, the peak is clearly about 15km/h to the right

  4. A thermostat is designed to keep the engine running at a particular temperature (and are rated accordingly). Unless outside conditions are either hotter than the surface of the sun or colder than a witch's chesticle, then it will work perfectly fine regardless of the outside temperature. The RADIATOR on the other hand, is dependent on air temperature, and if it is insufficiently sized for the task then it may not be able to bring temperatures down far enough to keep the system in equilibrium, and that is when engines overheat. Still, I can't imagine having to change a radiator on an import to a bigger/thicker one unless you intend on doing some hardcore towing/track-work (which place much larger demands on the cooling circuit).

  5. Had to go to work this morning so checked out the HEZ (Hunter Economic Zone) on the way home, it's an "abandoned" (never developed) industrial estate near Kurri Kurri, couple of nice straight roads and no thru-traffic, managed to grab a break in the weather too

  6. It's amazing how much improvement the ear- (sounds louder, must be more powerful), butt- (can feel a bit of a kick, must be more powerful) and wallet- (it's expensive, must be more powerful) dyno can give....

I'm all for K&N filters, but the main benefit from most of them are the slight increase in induction noise (not linked to power at all) and wash/reusability. And of course changing to a brand new anything will give you an improvement over an old/dirty original

  7. Hi everyone, Henry here.

I'm an 18 year old from Australia, and i currently own a 1993 holden apollo (pretty much holden body on a camry)

It's a Camry body, just with a few unique Holden features like the grille and the front/rear lights + garnishes. Still made by Toyota though, just with Holden badges

Your driving a Holden apollo, there's your problem, save your time the money needed to get this car running right your better off spending on a cheap surf and get it upto scratch. I bought mine for $1500 with only a blown water pump. Do yourself a favor.

Odd post much? He's not asking about getting a 4WD, and Surfs have a rather bad history themselves when it comes to engines, especially the diseasals.

  8. Still looks kinda cool though, even if it isn't genuine. Realistically, it's an oil cap!! If it f@&*s up, for 35 bucks, buy another one. I'd love to have a car fitted out with genuine trd gear but the hip pocket don't stretch that far. Your "fake" one still looks cool and gonna match the red paint on that supercharger. I'd put it on my car.

I've got nothing wrong with copy-style stuff as long as it doesn't try and pass itself off as the real thing ie I had BSA AU229 wheels on the AE102 at one stage, they are a TE37 copy but I made sure that the RAVS VORK stickers weren't fitted. If I'm going to fit something with a TRD/Cusco/APEXi/HKS/whatever sticker on it, I want it to be genuine, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it in the first place, otherwise I'd buy something generic or cheap-branded.
