  1. Straight up, not an easy task... just did mine on my ST184 (front left)... The bearings need to be pressed in! worse still if its the front (not sure on the rear) coz it uses a hub assembly which makes extraction very difficult... the job its self is estimated as a 2-3 hour job by trained personnel. I do quite a bit of work on my car, this had to handled by the pros! first off you'll be up for a Wheel bearing kit. which contains the bearing, the seals, spaces etc. not for the faint of heart... and that sound has got to ***** you off something fierce... I know how you feel! Any mechanic can do this job! just a matter of how much time they have.
  2. very nice... love the ST184, economy was something to be reckoned with... just so you know its 45Lts Main and 15Lts Res making a total of 60Lts.. worst mileage i was getting in that car (when lead footing) was 10kms to the liter. one full tank gets me from melbourne to sydney!!! no s#it
  3. well thats a good interval, slightly over zealous (*me thinks*)... Thats there way of making you come back 4 times during that year. Beware tho, make sure you get a full transcript of what they have done, always be wary. Otherwise good stuff i guess
  4. i'm basing my response on a 2001 (7th gen)celica. "H3" heres the replacement part AutoPartWharehouse hope it helps

    Sunroof

2K!!!! man you can get new one installed at that price... first thing, get the sunroof closed and then disable it (fuse, relay, etc) if your only issue is the electronics are acting up, you could perhaps consult an auto elec, at least that way you know you're dealing with someone who specializes in that field. Do the 7th gens have a service manual available for purchase (you'd think they do), maybe do some reading on it, and of course good'ol google :) Better still have you tried another dealer! second opinion may help. Sorry dont have any real answers for ya
  6. thanks man... ey if you need help i'm in the inner west just send me a msg thru MSN or something

    Intercoolers

Absolutely! there's buggar all body roll thanks to stiffer suspension. compression in the motor is slightly different which helps when exiting the corners. Steering is tighter, I found that the ST184 in comparison can be steered with nothing more than your pinky finger, as a safety mech when the GT4 is moving into corners the steering will stiffen acting as a damper of sorts. That being said understeer is eliminated (almost) leaveing over-steer depending on how hard you hit the curve. Grips like a bastrad! Whereas the ST184 stays loose regardless ( a good and bad thing) otherwise the both cars maintain a low center of gravity and wide wheel base.

    very helpful thx man

    Intercoolers

Hi all, My Celica incorporates a Water to Air Intercooler (as opposed to a standard Air to Air Intercooler). With the fluids in the intercooler I can see that it is just water. What i was wondering was, Since its a cooling mechanism like the radiator could I/should I flush it and run a coolant mixture. I wouldn't mind having the anti corrosion properties of the coolant but just don't know enough as yet about turbo systems and their appendages given that i've moved from a ST184.
  18. Oh noes, do i dare bring the GT4? lets think back to my power steering pump :)... maybe i'll degrease my engine before hand :D at this rate i'll be down never done TOCAU GOR run.. what about tourists? dont they slow everything down - to like 10kmph?!
  19. Hi all, Through experience and research with my ST184 I knew my total tank capacity was 60Ltrs what was mad up of: 45Ltrs Main 15Ltrs Reserve I'm having trouble calculating capacities for the ST185, I have a total of 68Ltrs (factory spec); The closest estimate I've been able to calculate is: 55Ltrs Main 13Ltrs Reserve Somebody able to justify/confirm this figure for me? I tried google but I always end up with the total capacity and not the break downs, the tank shape is different from the ST184 so I'm not going to assume the reserve is the same.
  20. Yes, thats right, we did the big shoot at HQ first then went thru port melb (i remember leading for a little while)... Wow time flies. Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load! If need be i guess a week day is fine also
  21. ! Zoran! I didn't know u got a GT4! Been ages since I seen u! I'm in Melb for the long weekend. I'm there ;P yeah upgraded from the ST184r a few weeks ago... dame i think the last time we met would of been the Lake Mountain cruz in 07 (that one where we lost a honda civic over the cliff [honda crew joined us]) I take it i'll see you again soon then :)?
  22. absolutely, but the ratio of which ever gear would apply to the entire rev range, dunno, thats why i'm suggesting do a check for very gear.. I KNOW, engine sounds loud = change gear :D ;P... that too is a good guide lol the Manual will rule all
  23. which manual? the one that came with the car or a third party book? i have the "Haynes" brand manual which is based on a full tear down. I don't believe I've seen such stats on gears, except for their recommend range e.g 1st gear up to 20kms ~ 5th Gear anything over 70kms etc. Because obviously the car will keep pulling as long as theres space in the RPM range. You could use a bit of math: The ST184 (actual factory stats) achieves its; peak pulling power (torque) of 194Nm (Newton Meters) @ 4400RPM and max drive power (Kilo Watts) of 99KW @ 5400RPM. ==================== Now taking the average of both factors gives you a balanced peak of both Torque and KiloWatts @ 4900RPM [lets call it 5000RPM] (this just a guide) (4400 + 5400) / 2 = 4900RPM *You if you have a GPS handy in will come in handy as most ST184 speedos are out by upto 9%, when i had a ST184 in order to truly travel at 100kmph i had to have the needle at 109KM/H on the dial.* Now lets assume that your going to assume 5000RPM is your safe max (I would suggest it) Go into 1st gear drive up 2000RPM - Hold and maintain this amount of engine power as accurately as possible, then record your speed. Do this in all gears! Once your done. Take the values of each gear and begin multiplying by the remaining safe working RPM range. ===================== Example. Let assume that at 2000RPM in 2nd gear your traveling at 45kmph (just an example) Devide 45 by 2:- 45 / 2 = 22.50kmph @ 1000RPM Now we know that per 1000RPM we have the value of 22.50kmph, if our safe working load is 5000RPM we simply multiply: 22.50kmph x 5 (5000RPM) = 112.50KMPH (which would be insane but please remember its an example) This method applies to motors as long there's power still being generated hence the average. I hope somehow that helps, failing that - I tried <_<, also note that I'm not a mechanic! I just like my Celicas :) The example above is my alternative to suggesting you find a piece of road and keep accelerating until you find your peaks. (If in doubt consult those that are in the industry full time)
