  1. Hi Have you tried eBay? I have been getting my paints that way for a while now.
  2. Thanks, it is a 1996. Where is it located in the car??
  3. At first I thought it was my PC or the operating system but I got others to try to register with the same problem. I can't even contact the site to get help to register. @ Newbie Jennifer. Is there nothing else you can do such as get a motoring organisation to step in. We have the AA here in England that I am in who would be very helpful. I seriously doubt your insurance will be able to help but you never know. Have you contacted only the local Toyota agent??
  4. I'm shocked; that is gorgeous. I thought you were going to be telling me how it was cost cow cos of its shortcomings but boy did you surprise me.
  5. Did you find it expensive? Or was there something in particular that was costly?
  6. Yes, I can imagine. ^_^
  7. But going by the very cheap prices these are going for (and it's not just year model and high km's which make them cheap), most seem to be beach-goer's and daily runabouts which people eventually tire of and want to upgrade for something newer. I've been used to Vitaras of the same sort of age but switched to a Jimny as I loved my SJ413 so much from previous years and that was not as enjoyable as I had hoped so I decided to try the Rav which had always been one of my alternatives. I never took the plunge before as I like a 'proper' old fashioned 4WD system and a separate chassis set up. However, right away I knew that once I had made a few changes to this old Rav (door mirrors which IMHO are awful and seating position) I would like it and guess what, I really do. Also I was totally shocked by the performance it gives while still returning 31-32mpg. With what it offers this is a keeper for me; I don't envisage being one of those who will tire of it. It'll never be as good for me as my '92 Pajero that I will never part with but it is a cracking little motor that hopefully will serve me well for another ten years.
  8. I wonder what the lifespan was expected to be?
  9. Yes I meant those but also I meant the 3 door.
  10. I am just about OK with 4mph over. I find myself doing a quick subtraction all the time. It is too distracting. Like today I went past a speed sentry and it told me I was doing 28mph when my clock was showing about 34. I need to see that I am doing 30 when I am actually doing 30 so I can drop below it in 30mph limits. My Pajero is bang on, why can't Toyotas be too??
  11. I have used this for that problem on other cars with fantastic results. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251302578959?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I have tried to register with Rav4World but can't get on.
  12. Is the Rav 4.1 noted for any rain leaks? I have a regular ingress when the rain is heavy; it drips at the fan for the aircon.
  13. Is there a socket on early Ravs for an OBD2 code reader?
  14. I am wondering how many 3 door Rav 4.1s are left?
  15. I get the spray made up then spray a small amount into the lid and use an artist's brush for touching up chips etc. I just had Halfords (do you have Halfords ?) mix mine up for my wine red '96.
  16. Is this any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351053755526?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  17. And what happens in tunnels/around skyscrapers etc? Especially with the number of speed cameras in NSW tunnels (Harbour, Lane Cove etc), relying on a GPS speedo (these already exist by the way, Speedhut make them, mostly for retro-fitting into old-skool cars without needing to interface with the original mechanical speedo sender) is just asking to be fined for speeding... There are some people who pretty much drive by GPS for one reason or another!! Nudge nudge, wink wink, know what I mean, know what I mean!! ;) :D
  18. Right, I was running 10mph fast so I went up a few tyre sizes (width and aspect) and now the speedometer reads only 4mph fast. Big improvement.
  19. Update. Well it's installed. The red box behind the ciggy lighter is the control box and two terminals when each grounded to earth operate the lock and unlock. I found them using a probe light. All you have to do is connect the appropriate lock/unlock leads from the CL unit to them. Job done.
  20. I know it's an old thread but browsing, I was amazed at the high pressures being used. I have 1.8 bar on the door frame which is 26psi. I just had some tyres fitted and the fitters blew them up to 36psi even though I said do them to 30. The ride felt really harsh so I dropped the pressures to 28psi and wow the improvement was fantastic. I am going to try 24 next.
  21. Paintless dent removal. I have owned two Rav4(4.1) and both have had dents in the rear door which have to be as a result of having the spare wheel hitting stuff when reversing. This is the dent that came free with the car when I bought it. I've seen a lot of vids on PDR, some seem like miracles such as using popcorn. I thought I'd try so I sealed off the back door and ....................................nothing.So I decided to try making my own version of this, I mean, how hard can it be?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261359139494?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I got myself a cheap hot water bottle and cadged a punctured bicycle tyre inner tube from Halfords. I drilled out the HWB cap and slipped the inner tube valve into the hole then cut the tube off to make this.
  22. Is the control unit for the central locking a red box about the size of two fag packs located under the dash behind the cig lighter?
  23. I don't believe this but I was digging around under the dash in the transmission tunnel next to the passenger footwell and I found a long long lead folded up with a terminal connector on the end. Am I right in thinking this is ready for a towbar??? I hope it is because normally I spend hours splicing wires.
