  1. Hi everyone, i have a set of 245/45-20inch tyres which have 98% tread on them but unfortunately do not fit my new car. My question is do Tyre Shops trade in or can they remove the tyres for me at a cost of course...so i can sell them seperatly? cheers Bru
  2. Well, i would like to share my experience with my Rav4 V6 which i bought over a year ago. when i first bought the car i remember hearing a very faint noise when travelling around 40 km/h at that time i didnt think much o it. coming from a 10 year old car the Rav seemed very quiet to me. however over the last 12-14 months of ownership the noise has started getting louder, specially after the car warms up the noise becomes very obvious. i decided to take the car for a service before Xmas as i will be travelling to central coast for new years, the service was to be done 4 weeks later but i wanted to get the car in good shape for our road trip. Turns out the Auto Transmission will need replacing they acknowledge the noise was there and advised gsint travelling any long distance. As a result i decided to leave the car with them, the car will be towed to Parramatta where Toyota Auto Trans specialists are located and i will be without my car for at least 2-3 weeks. I have been driving my mums little car and i cant believe how much i miss the space and convinience of my Rav4 just after 2 days... Anyways back to the issue, i asked the following questions: is this a common problem with Rav4 V6? the serviceman said NO what exactly is the problem? he didnt explain all he said is it will need replacing. now i have been following this thread in RAV4world forums :http://rav4world.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21109&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=180 and it seems to be a very common problem... after just learning about the oil pipe which needs to be replaced as mentioned in this forum Kluger thread and now this major problem with Auto Trans im starting to wonder if the Toyota is letting themselves down in terms of reliability... luckly im still under warranty but i cant imagine the cost of Trans Replacement if the warrnty had expired. Anyways im just wondering if anyone has experienced similar problems? Merry xmas everyone.
  3. hey there, welcome to the forum. replies here are rare... But in regards to your question, i tried to do one for my fathers Mazda CX7 (a replacement key) and there was too much mucking around. you have to cut the key and you have to make sure you control unit (buttons) fit in the flip console you bought. the keys for 06 and 07 should be the same unless its an overseas model european models seem to have different key set up. cheers Bru
  4. I just bought a 1999 RAV SWB for $5950 with a one year old LPG system and am getting 10 litres per 100km. I start and run it on LPG dont even bother with ULP Cost per fill is not going over $15 per 30 litre fill averaging 54cpl. Drove up Mt WIlliam today 1 mile up in 12KM no power reduction all the way to 5000 feet. Perfect traveller. wow, that has to be cheaper than hybrid. would be great as a second car.
  5. Very nice...I was thinking of getting 18" but after seeing yours might go the 20s". Did you get them from tempe tyres? How much were they? any error on the speedo? Nice mate. Congrats! hi there, yes got them from tempe, the price was $2000 flat...i dont know how they do it but they are cheapest i found. in standard form my speedo was 4 kms lower @ 100km/h now with the tyres 255/45 speedo is about 2 kms less @ 100 km/h i used this site to calculate the tyre sizes: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html so the answer is no speedo wasnt affected much at all. go for it, and post pics later... need more action in this Rav4 forum. cheers
  6. after doing alot of research i realise the tyres for the 19inch kluger wheels are too expensive for me so i decided to buy 20inch wheels with khumo tyres. on another note, anyone interested in buying my kluger wheels please contact me to discuss.
  7. wow, 22 inch the ride quality on that wont be very good. like someone said on this forum before Tempe Tyres can find you anything.. im sure it will look great though, alot of Americans put 22's on them.
  8. update on the tyres and wheels, i have managed to get a set of wheels but to the size of tyre i want 245/50-19 is very hard to find. only one brand make it "yokohama" and Tempe tyres is the cheapest @ $420 per tyre. other option is to go with a 255/50-19 which will set me back $220 per tyre.. however the yokohama tyre is perfect the Speedo is correct and fills the wheel rather nicely. decisions...decisions. You may not need to calibrate the speedo as the speedo on the RAV4 is quite optimistic (ie actual speed is slower than indicated). Just check the accuracy of your speedo with a GPS after you've changed the tyres. You may be ok. that's correct the speedo wont be an issue, im actually 4 kms slower when travelling @ 100km/h if i go with 245/50-19 the speedo wont change but if i go with 255/50-19 the speedo will be plus 1.5% which will almost correct itself. i used this calculator : http://www.exploroz.com/Vehicle/Tyres/SizeCalc.aspx i just find the 255 tyre a bit big..but looks like it will be the only option and save myself $800

  10. Bruster don't forget that 19"rims could do bad things to the accuracy of your speedo. ok, i finally found a nice guy at Bob Jane who took the time to explain to me and what i should do. if im really set on the Kluger wheels then i will need 5 mm spacers most probably for the front wheels because they may touch the brake calipers. Tyre size will have to be 245/45 - 19 series worst case scenario 255/45 - 19 this will have my speedo as accurate as it is now. problem is finding those size tyres are difficult and not many companies make it and therefore Bridgstone may set me back $500 per tyre which i think is ridiculous. so he recommended either 18 inch or 20 inch wheels because there is more range of tyres of those wheel sizes. So i'll keep searching for cheaper better options. By the way Kluger wheels have an OFFSET of 35+ and RAV4 has an OFFSET of 38 - 43 +
  11. Just wanted to know if anyone in the Forum has put the latest 19 inch Kluger wheels on their RAV4 Im keen to buy a set of 4 x 19 inch kluger wheels as i need to change tyres in the next 6 months so i thought good opportunity to add some new to the RAV4. i called a few places and getting mixed messages, Tempe Tyres say no problems it will fit, but Bob Jane say it will not fit unless some modifications is done. apparently they have a different offset which i dont know what that means. and finally Beaurepairs wouldnt even give me an answer unless i bring the wheel over for them to try it out. any help would be great, if i cant fit them in i might just replace the tyres when it comes time to changing it.
  12. Thats great news Tigz, how funny im also going to Canberra this weekend... i might just spot you cruising down the highway. im hoping to crack the 8.9l / 100 km this weekend, that was my best result last Canberra trip.
  13. If you thinking of lowering your car, our lovely government has made it a little harder. ‹ back to previous News Laws on lowering cars 'will save lives' AAP, July 16, 2009 New laws making it an offence to raise or lower a car's suspension without proper approval is about saving lives, NSW Roads Minister Michael Daley says. New laws making it an offence to raise or lower a car's suspension without proper approval is about saving lives, NSW Roads Minister Michael Daley says. From August 1, car owners will be limited to raising or lowering their suspension by no more than five centimetres, and all modifications will need approval from Roads and Traffic Authority engineers. Currently, a car can be raised or lowered by up to five centimetres without approval and by up to 15 centimetres with approval. Mr Daley says while drivers may think a lowered car looks "cool" it really is dangerous and any adjustment of more than five centimetres doesn't belong on the road. "I don't want to see young hoons putting their lives or the lives of others at risk, just because they think their car looks better 15 centimetres closer to the ground," Mr Daley said in a statement. "Raising or lowering a vehicle's height can put the driver, passengers and other road users at risk. "It can affect handling, braking and safety features such as electronic stability control." Any vehicle that is raised or lowered after August 1 will have to carry a certificate stating that the modifications confirm to safety standard requirements.

    RAV GPS problem

the buttons are green which is strange doesnt match the rest of the colour scheme.
  15. thats what im hoping for, i enquired with Toyota US but havent heard back maybe not willing to send me the part to AUS. If the part costs less than $300 i think its still worth trying.
  16. I know what it controls, it controls the display unit in the centre of the gauge which if installed should display temp, and fuel consumption. if you have driven an australian Rav4 you'll know this button is not included but quite possible for the feature to be there inactive. So no i dont think it would be useless, in fact it would very usefull... i would prefer this over a scangauge anyday. In your case having Aurion you wont have this problem because your Trip Computer comes standard on a Sportivo.
  17. Hey there fellow members, just wanted to find out where can i get this part, this is the steering wheel of the american Rav4 and i believe we have this feature but most probably not activated.. here is a picture:

    RAV GPS problem

well guys i just picked my car up from Toyota. they did their scheduled service and i requested them to look into the GPs again and emphasized this is the second time i was requesting this. They checked all the wiring and re-connected all the wiring for the GPS and it seems to be working great now. I did mention i did some research and thought it could be the speed sensor as mentioned by one of the members here but when i picked it up hey didnt tell me exactly what was wrong with, just re-wired everything.
  19. obvisouly this applys to people who own Ravs or klugers, i cant imagine anyone changing their corolla for the sake of saving 1 l / 100km well last year it almost hit $2.00 and if take premium unleaded into account it wont be too long before that happens again. this week i paid $1.33 for normal and checked premium unleaded was at least 0.15c more.
  20. I have noticed petrol slowly increasing over the last few weeks and if you go by what the media is saying dont be suprised if Petrol gets close to $2.00/litre Even though i dont understand how this pricing works given that our dollar is high and the oil is stable around $70 a barrel. So i'll go straight to the point, What will do with your car?...will you keep it? downsize?

    Rav4 V6

I think alot of people are being a bit harsh on Vassam, he seems to be upset and just wanted to vent his frustration ona Forum that he thought would support him. However i do think he could've dealt with it a little different, the problem here is not with Toyota Rav4 but its its service centre and this not only happens with Toyota but many other dealer service centres of different brands. I think you next step should be trying another dealer and if that doesnt work then take it up with Toyota Australia P.s: Herman: the 200kw on my Rav is just perfect...... there is no other SUV in its class with the power and space the rav4 offers...the driver should know their limits.

    RAV GPS problem

I've got the ZR6 and it sounds like you've got a problem because mine is always on my back to obey local speed restrictions :).what version of DVD Whereis maps do you have mine is 15. You may have a bad DVD. thanks for the reply, im 100% there is a problem my second service is due soon and i will take it up with Toyota AGAIN. i think i have version14.... my gps Start's by saying "follow the highlighted route" and " you have arrived at your destination" between them there is no talking no alerts nothing. and its really annoying because the manual states is a voice navigation, and im having to constantly look at the screen otherwise i could easily take the wrong turn...
  23. Hi Tigz, i was wondering about this myself and i have been doing a test for the last month: Week 1: 12.9 l / 100 km city / suburbs driving - normal unleaded Week 2: 13.5 l / 100 km city / suburbs driving - premium caltex 95 octane Week 3: 9.1 l / 100 km drove sydney to canberra highway driving - normal unleaded Week 3: 9.8 l / 100 km drove canberra to sydney highway driving - E10 unleaded Week 4: 12.3l / 100 km city / suburbs driving - normal unleaded Week 5: 12.0 / 100 km city / suburbs driving - caltex premium unleaded 95 octane I dont know why i got 13.5l in week 2 maybe i drove harder than usual but these are the figure have for the last 5 weeks. i also found tyre pressure plays a big part in fuel consumption...make sure you have around 36 psi at least. hope this compares with the rest of you guys, i have a ZR6 model. cheers Bruster
  24. wow, i went on holidays and came back to see the topic going strong. i travel to canberra once per month and i can tell you Rav has enough space to fit lugage, pram and more easily. only wish the rear seats were a little wider.
  25. yes, i know the kluger offers all of what you mentioned but that brings me to my point...the kluger is mostly targeted at families and people who require more space yet on this forum the kluger seem to have much higher following than the Rav... just look at the post on the kluger section compared to Rav. although if you look at at the dimensions of both cars there is not much between them...
