  1. Danny,

I hit a Kangaroo once (I was only going slow though [KE30 days], because I knew they'd be out along this stretch of road that I used to frequent).

I got out to check the car, but knew it'd be fine. I was only doing around 50kmph. Saw the Roo, thought I'd better see if it was alive or dead. He was fine. Now, I 'knew' he was fine, because he jumped up as I approached, ran up to me, and kicked the living **** out of me.

Be careful dude, Karma is rife these days

    glad your dads ok.

    My dad? lol

lol wasnt it ur dad that had the accident? or was it ur dads car?

  2. i posted this in my members thread, but thought id post it in here as well in case people dont read my thread... if a mod wants to delete it, feel free... :)

i took the car to predator tonight for a dyno night...

after realising they cant run it on the dyno without turning the traction control off, they took the car off and i went on the net in their shop and found out the procedure to turn it off (thanks to TOCAU!! lol)...

so 4 cars later, my car went back on the dyno...

imo, those guys SERIOUSLY have no idea what they're doing on there... apparently the front of the car has no tow hooks, so they strapped it to the lower control arms... but every time he started going for it, it would come up on the rollers... so they also put the handbrake ON, so it would stop coming up on the rollers...

wouldnt that restrict the power because of the friction of the brakes being on?

then he reckoned that with ALL autos, you cant run it like a normal manual car where you just put your foot down because it kicks down a gear (even though he put it in tiptronic mode)...

i dont know much about dynos, but i reckon thats a load of BS... APC ran my old corolla on the dyno when it was auto and it never 'kicked down a gear'...

so anyway, as a result, the graph looks NOTHING like a normal graph and i dont even understand what its doing on it...

anyway, after all that, it made 248HP at the treads, which is 185kw...

i was only expecting a max of 180kw... so i'm happy...

plus the engine has only done 3,000kms... and i know with my accord euro, i didnt feel vtec (kick in yo!) until 10,000kms... so once the engine gets more kms on it, it may make slightly more power... who knows...

either way, it gives me a good idea of the base kws of the car... ;)

let me tell you, after 15000km service, you will feel slightly more power. the car feels way smoother and faster.

  3. Danny,

unlucky!! glad no one was hurt. i had a similar experience back in 2005. returning to melbourne from goldcoast, i turned a corner during daydriving at 140kmh having a laugh with mates and what do i see last second? lol a kangaroo, dead lying in the middle of the road with its as5 up. no chance of me swerving around it as it was a single lane road and didnt want to risk no ones life so i slammed the breaks, got back on the gas to get the cars front lip back up and went over it without damaging the car. let me mind you, the car was a 325ci sport and we all know how low those things are and i was amazed i didnt damage the car at all. i looked at my rear view mirror, and saw the whole thing rip into pieces. meat stuck underneath the car ofcourse and i dont want to even think of how bad that smell was, imagine marinated bbq meat smell mixed with bloody furr. eww :) we drove with the windows down for 2 hours because we couldnt take the smell at 38 degree weather, till i puled over at a petrol station to wash the underneath of the car to get rid of the smell. luckily we got rid of the smell and thanked *** for not making the scene worse. again, glad your dads ok.

    Buri,

  4. Azza they are probably the worst car i could think of for track work. They don't handle, or stop not without spending a truck load of $$$$ to make it do so. then you have to make it go so then throw another truck load of $$$$ into an engine.... maybe cheaper to go 180 or Silvia till you kill it then do the rb26 twin turbo transplant...

too many to list but my favourites were 355 f1 spider, porsche turbo 996 , e36 m3 and e46 m3.

personal best is 260kms in Austria in an e36 m3.

personal best in australia is 250kmh.

  5. Not sure that its a good idea to run the tank that low if you can help it.

The lower the fuel level in the tank the greater the likelihood of condensation, especially in the colder weather. This will be exacerbated if left over night or perhaps several nights, depending on your driving habits.

Over time this condensation can build up. This is not a major problem unless you consistently run your fuel very low, You may be lucky and get away with it but if your unlucky it could result in major engine problems.

hmm... I too don't usually consider refilling until I get to the 0 kms cruise range left. I too learned that there's usually at least 10L left at that point.

Regarding any engine problems, Toyota warranty will cover that won't they ? After all, they can't tell me that it's because of my refilling patterns and thereby not a warranty item ? If that was the case, they'd make that disclaimer in the owners/warranty manual ?

Perhaps that's a little too naive... :) Come to think of it, they could just say that there was water in your fuel which becomes your problem straight away if there are any fuel impurities. You won't get anywhere saying that it's due to condensation which their design didn't "cater" for, they could debate that and say that condensation is insignificant and not the likely source. That would leave you in a pickle...

its not good for a new engine to run on low all the time but im an owner where i dont like to refuel till i get the most of my tank :) i know from experience that the car will go for about 60 - 80kms or a bit more after the fuel gauge hits the very last line. which most of you will probably panic as you will think that your about to run out of fuel but its a safety system the car will have a bit more fuel in the tank for emergency driving and that fuel will roughly take you about 80 kms. i was running on low when i was driving to melbourne from sydney at a road trip with a camry v6 sportivo 05 model. i got lost while looking for a petrol station. the fuel gauge light had turned on way before i got lost and after hitting the final fuel gauge line, i travelled for about 95 kms on top of that trying to find a petrol station and as soon as i found one and entered the petrol station entrance, the car ran out of fuel and i did approx 95 kms. i panicked badly doing 80 kms on an empty tank and i was impressed with the 95 km mark. so just to let you guys know, if your running on empty and i mean empty ( as in last line of fuel gauge ) keep the 60-80 km mark in memory.

  6. Anyone know where to purchase one of these Sat Nav aftermarket units (apart from eBay)?

no idea but if i get the factory sat nav for the aurion zr6 im going to take it to a place to see if they can do something to it to play dvds. lol if they say for 200-250 well do it. im willing to give them that much. would be awesome to watch music clips when driving or watching dvds on road trips.

  7. Hey I think you will get the factory one, which is the silver one.

lol yeh i figured after giving them a call up :D however i still havent ordered it. i thought about it for a long time because its worth too much for too little but i might order it next month. :D blew the sat nav money on a plane ticket :D so gotta save up a little more :P

  8. if you get the facotry fitted one, then it will be the one that looks like its part of the dash. if you get it dealer fitted it will be the black one.

    Lol... really

Umm i dont think there is a way to force it to play DVD's...... so im guessing you paid a $2000 dollar GPS unit, toyota would be smiling.

Well did you ask which one you are getting?, if you didnt you can guess by the price of it. over 3k RRP will be the factory looking not black one...

i paid over 3k so it should be the silver one then. :) i asked her which 1 i would get and the lady told me that theres only 1 sort and that its the factory fitted version. i just dont want to be shocked last minute if i see an ugly black thing in the middle of the console. :D i paid over 3k so it must be the good looking one :) why is the black version also cheaper? i couldnt also find any features of the sat-nav. would there be any info in the aurion manual?

Well according to the Toyota website, its basically the same as the stock unit unit, minus 2 cd slots, plus GPS and bluetooth which generally comes with gps units anyways these days.

http://www.toyota.com.au/Accessories/acces...64_1312,00.html (though this ones for the black unit).

Im guessing the black one is cheaper because its a pretty much like an aftermarket option, doesnt blend as well as the silver one and plus the silver one i assume Toyota assembles these whereas the black one is probably from a cheapo company rebranded.

Some thing I just noticed is the Black version has a AUX input, which is definitely NOT on the Factory fitted version.

And the Black one does not have FM2 ( I dont what this is, but it hasnt got a button for it )

yeh looks like im going to have the factory version. plus they would not fit a black version from the factory as it doesnt suit with the console so, my guess is same as yours. the black one must be as an aftermarket version where as the silver one is the factory version.

hmm thats not right, when i asked the melbourne city toyota they offered me which one did I wanted, though I said no to both.

Umm you can get the facia replacement for 30 bucks and that should fit that black one...

dealer is different though. i made my dad call up for the order from toyota and i later took the phone and asked which 1 i would get and the lady said that its the factory version. they would not fit the black one in if its a factory version. like another buddy said, the black one must be from a dealership as an extra. they wouldnt fit the black one from the factory as it also doesnt match the console. ill call soon and ask about it. does anyone know if it would be expensive to make it play dvds.

Yes if they tell u its the factory version then you will get teh silver, the black one is treated as an accessory as you can see on the toyota website,

Well it depends if it has a video in jack if not then tough luck. You'll spend a mini fortune to butcher the unit and plus you'll lose the warranty.

as rift said if you can get a portable dvd player and jack it in if it has the video input....

anyone have a photo of the back of the unit. would like to see if it has the video input but no luck with google lols.

  9. if you have got your P's before the aurion hit the market, you have no problems. however if you have got your P's after the aurion has come out, then you will have to look at the 125kw per tonne rule. and if its less than or equal to 125 you are good. if its more which i think it is, then no chance of driving it on your p's. thats all i know.

  10. It comes down to what the lease company allows because at the end of the day it's the lease company's vehicle and modding it will devalue the asset.

wonder if its easy to install back the original springs after removing aftermarket springs. anyone know ? if its costly etc.

  11. darius, bring the car to another mech to check that emission problem if there is any bad shxt. then mb dyno together.

i want it too. but 1 side only, another side i will just copy the style, coz its too loud, u might kill a grandma with tat

shxxxtt, i saw the thread too late and missed it :(

  12. @ ZR88

lol ... yep rims coiuld be a good start and when u do go to lower it .. pays just to check for yourself with insurance

    @PaultMT

Thanks mate. I wasn't sure about the colour when I bought it but now ... it's more than grown on me .. nice choice Paul :) As for spending money ... well I think that's it for me for a while ... well till I talk the missus around doing an exhaust job on it :spiteful: lol

    @Davenic

Cheers thanks ... be interesting to see where it settles too

looks perfect. congrats and enjoy it in good health :)

  13. well said guys a little politeness goes a long way. :yahoo: i also think that the title should be changed

At no point, did I mention how I explained or expressed the issue to the staff. It is never the fault of the employees whose livelyhood is dependant on following the written and unwritten company policy. It is never a good idea to blame the men in the trenches-eventhough it is common practice for a commission to be given to service staff who arrange for often needless repairs-they did not make the rules.

It is possible to be reasonable and restrained even when boiling. My experience with commercial air travel has taught me well.

Being the lounge area, free speech (within the limits of decency) should reign. Slander, even if you can prove it, is against an individual not an entity. The point was to express frustration at a business that has in at least 3 cases I know of personally refused any warranty responsibility and charged rates that are beyond reason.

Thanks for the advice. I have been told by Fair Trade that I have a case. I just want to get these guys to honour a "bumper to bumper" warranty.

Mate, u have every reason to be frustrated. U have every right to have not known to check for leaves.

But the situation is so and at the place and time, if you were in their position, I don't think u'd be as willing to deal with an agressive customer.

Ur choice of words and attitude towards how u attend to the problem are more critical as I'm sure you're aware.

Many of us here on the forum have had many problems with our own local Toyota Dealers, timely, costly and just as frustrating if not worse than urs.

Talk to the Service Manager, contact the Dealer's Customer Relations line, possibly try another Toyota Service Department and if you wish, contact the Industry's Ombudsmon, like u said u have freedom of speech here in Oz.

Its not just what you do in this situation mate, its also How you do it.

Suggestion: Be Patient, Talk as if your a dummy and acknowledge what the dealer has to say. You just never know.

Good luck mate. N keep us up to date on the progress. :)

i like this thread. its fun to read. hopefully toyota nunawading will be fair and do it for free instead of asking 800 dollars :)

  14. Petrol sting here to stay

    19apr06

MELBOURNE drivers have been warned to brace for petrol prices as high as $1.40 a litre as global oil prices surge again.

    http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/st...55E2862,00.html

Crude oil hit $US70.86 a barrel in London trading last night, prompting motoring groups to warn it would take just days for a flow on effect at the petrol pump.

Drivers in Melbourne should expect to pay more than $1.35 a litre for unleaded fuel, the RACV warned, while prices in regional and remote areas would be even higher.

A more dire prediction came from Service Station Association chief executive Ron Bowden, who said petrol at $2 a litre could be a reality if oil prices continued to rise.

"You're living in a fool's paradise if you think you're just weathering a storm and everything will go back to normal. Normal is high energy prices," Mr Bowden said.

"It's going to continue to go up in the years ahead."

RACV spokesman David Cumming said the oil price hike would force the retail market out of a discount cycle and up from the $1.24 seen around Melbourne yesterday.

Mr Cumming said competitive market forces, a nervous world market and a built-in "war premium" helped push prices up.

"You only need to have sanctions on Iran or another explosion in Iraq and the sky's the limit," he said.

Last September, petrol hit an Australian record of $1.40.

Oil rise threatens to hold economy to ransom

    http://www.theage.com.au/news/business/oil...5344082632.html

MOTORISTS have been told to brace for pump prices of more than $1.35 a litre, amid warnings that Australia's reliance on oil imported from the Middle East and North Africa is set to soar.

Crude oil prices reached a near-record $US70.30 a barrel yesterday, spurred by geopolitical tensions in Iran and Iraq, conflict in Nigeria, refinery problems and booming demand.

The RACV's government and corporate relations manager, David Cumming, said unleaded petrol prices in Melbourne were likely to top $1.35 a litre by the middle of the week, compared with an average price of 123.8¢ a litre yesterday.

"You only need to have sanctions on Iran or another explosion in Iraq and the sky's the limit," Mr Cumming said.

Service Station Association chief executive Ron Bowden was even more pessimistic, warning petrol prices as high $2 a litre were "quite possible".

"You're living in a fool's paradise if you think you're just weathering a storm and everything will go back to normal," Mr Bowden said.

As a rough rule of thumb, when the world price of oil rises by $US1 a barrel, Australians pay an extra 1¢ a litre at the bowser, although it can take weeks to flow through. And every time the Australian dollar falls 1¢ against the US dollar, the price at the bowser rises about half a cent.

JPMorgan economist Jarrod Kerr said the recent weakening of the Australian dollar has added to the pain of high world oil prices, potentially hurting economic growth.

"Petrol prices in Aussie dollar terms are going up at a greater rate and we're expecting that to continue," he told ABC Radio. "From the consumers' point of view if petrol prices get above $1.40 a litre, even $1.50, that's going to cost the average punter an extra $15, $16 a week to fill up the car. What does it mean for retail sales? That's about 4 per cent, about $700 million will be drained from the economy per month, so that's obviously going to dampen growth."

The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics estimates Australia's oil consumption will leap by 66 per cent over the next 25 years, cutting oil self-sufficiency to just 50 per cent by 2029, compared with about 78 per cent now.

In a submission to a Senate Inquiry on future oil availability, the bureau warned that net oil importers such as Australia would be forced to rely on the Middle East and North Africa for supplies, regions pocked with geopolitical uncertainties. The ABARE report predicts the share of world oil produced in the two regions would rise from 35 per cent now to 44 per cent by 2030.

While high petrol prices will cost the Australian economy millions of dollars, they may help keep interest rates down by sapping consumer spending in the short term, economists say.

In the May budget, federal Treasury will warn that high oil prices are a risk to the economic outlook, with the potential to boost inflation and slow growth.

because ive been used to petrol prices in europe, i dont care about the petrol prices in australia till they hit 2.00 per litre. 1.30 to - 1.50 doesnt bother me much. However when i see the 2.00 per litre mark, i would start to get worried :D

  15. any TRD part can only be bought by TRD owners...

    it sucks i know =(

I'm just waiting for someone to total their TRD so i can pick their wreck!

    I got first dibs!

U Talkin about the wheels or the Body Kits?

Coz when i asked the Mechanics on the Toyota dealers, I asked for the TRD Body Kit.

They said Yes as far as i could remember but the thing is just they dunno specifically the price for each side.

But they said..I would be lookin to pay $1300 roughly for all of em.. This is just the kit, i dunno for the wheels.

So..Im just wonderin..Am i the only one who got a 'Yes' from Toyota dealers?:blink:

    looks like it :)

  16. Couldn't you get someone with a TRD Aurion to purchase the set of wheels for you....

Make up a lame excuse to TRD Toyota parts department about how some thug left your TRD Aurion on bricks, and get a friend with a TRD Aurion to use their VIN to purchase new ones. If you wanna make it even more legit and you know a Mechanic get him to order the parts through his business.

Will I get arrested for saying this?

That's an option i was looking into as well.

In addition to my previous post, I got the prices over the phone no problem. Didn't say anything about having to have a TRD tho. I went into a dealer to look over the TRD 3500S to check the bumper lay out and fitting/mounting points etc. I asked the sales guy about buying the kit and he said he didn't know the rules about it. He just implied that "you would probably need a VIN and/or Chassis number much the same as Holden requires for HSV parts purchase"

So get the numbers and order the parts for around $2200 for the factory TRD mags...

2200?? woww they told me 4k. what a bunch of liars. 2200 is without tires yes?

  17. does anyone on the forum have these wheels or have any information on how much they are? also are they sold to the general public or just trd aurion owners?

    trdaurion.jpg

Funny you should ask... I called up a TRD dealer for a price on the the body kit and mags. YES I WANTED TO DO A KIT TRD. Call me what you want but for the extra $25 - $30K for a supercharged version of the Aurion i just cant justify the expence either.

I want the looks without spending the money, so sue me... Aside from some badges, you wouldn't be able to tell a kit TRD from the genuine article. Point being that with the strict road rules and ridiculous penalties it's a real gamble buying a full on high performance car. But you can still have a mean looking car that goes hard and gets good fuel economy.

The 19 X 8 Wheels were $553 each and around $1000 per bumper. The dealer tried telling me the bumpers wouldn't fit on my SX6 cos "it was a different shape". I think the body kit would look pretty good on any Aurion.

it should fit an sx6 because i saw a black sx6 with a front trd aurion bumper so i dont know why they r bull****ing :)

  18. I think the wheels look great - Do the rims actually say TRD on them ? That would be the only down side to using them on a standard Aurion.

Trouble is that they'd probably cost twice as much from TRD compared to a set of similar aftermarket rims.

rims do not say trd at all. just the toyota emblem as you see in the picture. which is good. they cost as much as a brand new set of bbs chs. so its actually ideal. lot of the wheels you see around that go for bargain prices will show its quality as years go by. thats why its better to pay extra.

Well for expected price youd pay for those TRD ones, im expecting its going to be a mint, for that same price I reckon youd get better rims @ the same dimensions, Youd find many importers selling BBS, Enkei, Volk, Racing Hart @19's for around the 2.5K mark, very lightweight.

Trust me, Corporations are not going to put a super mint set of wheels on a 60K car its not worthwhile especially if the car doesnt sell, they better off making an impression that its good by looking good, if the TRD website doesnt boast about the rims which it doesnt merely stating "performance alloy wheels", then id bet it would be a second rate item.

Get a price quote and ask the dealer what material is it made from?

as i remember asking the dealership ages ago they said 4000dollars. not sure what materials its made from nor how much they weigh. other import brands im also considering :)

Will I get arrested for saying this?

thats what im going to do i think. :) thanks for the idea. and no you wont get arrested for this :) jst sharing thoughts.

  20. Car looks to concepty, i dont think it will be that.

From what I have been told the GTR clocked the official 2nd fastest (off the shelf production car) around the Nurb at 7.38, number one still is the Porche Carrera GT at 7.28, wait till Vspec @ est 410kw being 330 pounds lighter or any nismo editions then it probably be #1.

the carrera gt unfortunately got beaten by zonda f late last year by .2 secs.

7:27:82. hope the cgt gets the record back.

True to a point but there was alot of debate whether this was a true production car, they said the Radical SR3 Turbo was a production car, it made the quickest time as well and the BMW M3 CSL made 7.22 but it was very heavily modified but BMW claimed it was Production... I doubt the GT will reclaim, but Im sure though Porche will build a meaner machine soon enough to claim back the crown....

That said GTR being 4 - 3 times less in price to those said, acheiving that time is a super acheivement from a supercar that you dont need to be a hollywood star to afford!

m3 csl 7.22 is definately not accepted as production record as the car is heavily modified. radical sr3 turbo is not accepted as production car record as its not road legal. it cant go over little speed bumps etc. however zonda is fine.
