  1. Hi,

The activation switch on the cruise control stalk in my 2007 AT-X has stopped working.

It started like a couple of days ago and initially it would not activate once in like 5 times, and then it worsened within a couple of days and now it doesn't turn on anymore. Doubt it's a problem in the cruise control system; could just be the switch eg: contacts are worn off, or misaligned.

Can anymore recommend an auto electrician in northern suburbs of Melbourne who might able to fix this?

    Edit:
I could turn it on in the video after like pressing the switch for 20 times :D

    Cheers

  2. Hi fellas

I have a 2007 Aurion and I've had this since early 2016. Currently has done 130000km. I've serviced the car regularly (102k, 112k, 122k) and did change the front rotors and rear parking break shoes in that last service. I'm planning to do the next service at 135k.

The resale value of the car is pretty low so I think I will be keeping it for a while. I'm thinking about doing a transmission fluid change at the next service.
I don't know if the transmission fluid was replaced at any time during the last 11 years though. I guess it is safe to assume if hasn't been.

One concern I have is that I've heard people say if the transmission fluid hasn't been changed in a long time, doing a full flush can cause issues than any good. I don't know how long is "long time".

What would you do in my situation? Do a full flush or just a change (i.e. leave some of the old oil)

I don't have the experience, tools or the time to do this. I've looked at some online quotes and they seem to charge around $180-250 for it. Does it sound about right? Need to check if this is for a full flush or change.

Is there anything I need to watch out for when doing a transmission fluid change?

    Cheers

  3. Hi,

I just bought a 2014 Yaris Accent and wondering where to find the Australian version of the owner's manual online as a digital document (eg: PDF).

    Anyone know a place?

I came across this https://www.toyota.com/owners/resources/owners-manuals/yaris/2014 but it doesn't mention about the reversing camera which mine has, so I was thinking perhaps it was just the Australia version? perhaps it was installed as an accessory? I don't know. :S

Keep forgetting to release the foot  parking brake.

I thought it would then wear the front shoes of the two in the rear wheels more. Or even both to the same level. In my case the front shoes were fine, just the rear ones were worn off all the way down to the metal. I thought that would happen if you reversed with the parking brake on.

  5. Mine did the same thing. The mechanic readjusted the brake couple of times and it worked for only a few days before it stopped holding again.

He did a bit of digging and finally found out that the rear shoes were worn off to almost nothing left in it. Replaced them and it is holding fine now. I don't know what the previous owners of the car did to wear them off.

Suggest that you keep using your sunshade.

I did a Google search about rejuvinating plastics and got a number of hits about using virgin olive oil. However, this made the dash quite shiny and glary onto the windscreen. I bought the dashmat to remove this glare.

I can't find anything related to dash mats by that number.

Is this the product I need?

    or this one?

    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Dupli-Color-Touch-Up-Paint-Plastic-Trim-Primer-150g/357008

The former might not be enough. The latter is a spray, but its description mentions "Includes brush system for minor chips & scratches". What does this mean?

Also, do you think all I need is just touch up paint? They recommend that I use a primer, base paint and then clear coat in their docs. But they are all

  8. Hi,

The other day I got my car scratched below the driver side door as shown in the attached photo.

It's not a metal panel as far as I understand and I'm wondering what can be done to fix it DIY style. I don't want to spend a lot of money and don't expect to get a professional quality outcome. If it isn't noticeable from a  couple of meters away, that's good enough. Of course, if a great quality can be achieved with little bit more money spent, I'll go for that definitely.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Colour code is 061 (Diamond White) btw.

    Cheers

SuperCheap Auto stock them. I ended up buying one on eBay.

I don't use a sunshade but I have the windows slighty open; about 1cm.

Any particular manufacturer/model number I should look for?

I've seen some on ebay but they don't have a photo specific to the Aurion, so I don't know how they would actually look with my car.

  10. I don't feel it has an oily feeling. I honestly don't know what one of these melted dashboards look/feel like.

This is what mine looks like. I'm sure the pictures don't tell the whole story.

When you say melted, is it something you can only feel, or you can visually see a degradation too?

I never keep the dash exposed to direct sunlight. I use a sunshade if I park it in the sun.

Anyone else had this situation with these warning lights?

On two recent occasions, when reversing a box trailer uphill on a wet grassy surface, the car seems to labour. The engine is trying to turn the wheels backwards, whilst the traction control is trying to prevent the wheels turning, as there is apparently some wheel spin on the grass. The movement is eventually completed, but immediately afterwards the VSC and engine lights come on, and remain on for several small journeys.  Everything on the car works OK, and the lights eventually go out. Is this a common occurrence? It shakes one's confidence though.

I've had a similar thing happen. I wash the car and try to reverse back to the carport which is about 10-degrees upward sloping angle, and the car does not want to move even with the engine at 4000RPM! I got the check engine light.

    This happened twice.

This is what I got on the OBD2 scanner.
