  1. The only other thing I can think of dude, is that perhaps the immobilliser mayby causing some sort of interferance. A similar thing happened with my father-in-law's Falcon, where the smartlock shat itself. To turn the ignition, the light show wold operate but the car wouldn't start. Problem with his was that being an auto, we couldn't push-start it.... I'll have a chat to a mate of mine over the weekend, he's an auto-electrician... Cheers Azz
  2. Sorry guys, couldn't make it out tonight, wife grounded me (xmas shopping) I will be out and about tomorrow afternoon though if anybody else is....
  3. Hey BlackRolla This may be a dumb question, and please don't be offended, but do you leave your car in a garage at night with the keys in it???? I know it sounds daft, but that's what I used to do, and I thought after a few days that the car was sluggish to start, ie it didn't sound like it wanted to join the party. When I was talking to my wife about it, she said that her boss, who is driving a brand new Land Cruiser, was also leaving his keys in the ignition in his garage overnight and was having starting problems. I stopped doing it and I have not had any problems with it since... Just a thought Cheers Azz
  4. Not I said the blowfly, mine's red....but I have noticed that Sci-Fleet Toyota at Kedron has just sold a used silver one....If whoever bought it paid the retail price, then they got jibbed... Have seen a blue one lately hanging around the new shops on Dohles Rocks Rd at Castle Hill if anybody knows him. Looks stock too...
  5. E-Gene... I'd love to be apart of entering my car as part of a club, however mine would be the poxy one on the end with nothing done to it....so I will support everyone else... My first thought aboput the status of my Tivo was that I wondered if it would end up with some sort of cult reputation, similar to what the GTi Swift had in the mid 90's. Call it a crap car, but it had balls compared to it's rivals..... I seen stocko ones back then leaving all kinds of stuff in it's wake.... Have a good one, Azz
  6. The only problem I have now with my tivo is what to get next when this one has all but worn out. I guess my only option would be to get the next sportivo, should toyota grace us with one....but I'm sorry, I have come from a Levin to a Sportivo, I won't be going back to the Levin..... I think I might start a daily email pledge to Toyota to keep the Sportivo as a permanent lineup model FOREVER..... :D :D :D and make it better each time.... All those in favour....say I
  7. I'll be honest in this situation and say that I couldn't give a rat's tooty about the road noise. Although my 'tivo is as slow as they can physically get ie, never been modified, I must say that the noise and feeling of the lift experience with the windows down never ceases to make the drive enjoyable. With all due respect, and not to offend anybody affected by road noise, but gee, turn the radio to a comfortable level, wind the windows down and listen to a non-rotary engine revving to 7k..... I won't be getting rid of my Sportivo in a hurry. I had been waiting for this car since they were first notified of expected arrival (back in January 2001 I was advised May 2002) and I had to wait until I could get a decent trade for my 2000 Levin which I finally got this year. Picked up my new (16km on the ODO) red Sportivo in September (at a bargain mind you), and now loving every minute of it. Not too many sub $30K cars can take out a fair chunk of the cars they come up against. When you consider that for this price range, there is next to no other vehicle on the road with a power/weight ration comparable. The Sportivo is rated at about 8.7Kg/kw compared with a stock 'prezza at 8.4. This means that for every kw the vehicle produces, our 'tivos only have to haul equivelent of a small bottle of water extra. :D :D I love my 'tivo...
  8. Hey SILVERBULLIT I'm in Murrumba Downs, but I usually end up driving all round the place, especially between Bracken Ridge, North Lakes (Mango Hill), Virginia, Aspley/Chermside, Strathpine & Kallangur/Murrumba Downs. You'll see me if I'm around, Bright red 'tivo with black/yellow plates 'AZZ76' Have you always lived in Bracken Ridge? I used to live there, and went to high school there....some years ago... Yeah, I do consider myself lucky. It doesn't mean that nothing will go wrong, touch-wood... Hopefully will try to catch up some time @ Milton, or wherever.... I'm off work this week so will probably be out and about.. Cheers Aaron
  9. Getting screwed on specs, Toyota would never do that... lol I just hope that the next batch of Sportivo owners don't end up up with some of the things I like to term as 'design flaws' 1) Coin holder not holding nothing bigger than a $1.00 coin... the tolls in Brisbane are $2.20 and the 20c coin won't fit. 2) Rear Parcel Shelf having no support in the centre. ie when doing speeds higher than 50kph with the windows down, the shelf gets blown around (and is annoying) 3) No Alarm. My 2000 Corolla Levin had an alarm....why didn't the 'tivo get one.... Cheers Azz
  10. My comments were not designed to be shot from the hip and to assume that people are flogging their car. I was reading posts where people mentioned gearbox problems when they were changing at 7 & 8 thounsadn RPM. When the manufacturer advises recommended rev ranges for gear shifting, and one mentions that they are exceeding this, of course I am going to be scepticle about the 'manufacturing fault' of the product. I am not saying that I don't take mine to it's limits, I do, and boy is it fun when I do, but I don't do it all the time. 'Budda' quoted about a guy 'thrashing' his Celica and doing 2 gearboxes. Of course thrashing the nuts from your car will do that. I know guys with all types of vehicles that flog 'em and f**k 'em. It is what happens. My point is this. If there is an issue with the vehicle that is causing the product to not behave or perform in a manner of which it was intended, then there are avenues to take. The Australian Competition & Consumer Commision (ACCC) and the Dept of Fair Trading (or equivelent) in each state are set up and designed to be there for these type of issues. A highly detailed letter theses organisations are exctremely effective when the manufacturer's do not want to hndle the issue themselves. If there is a sincere and genuine case, then you'll find a littel intervention will go a long way through these channels. I read posts about people wanting to shoot off letters to the papers and major auto mags about the problems. Of course Toyota won't assist. You have all but said you want to bad mouth them. Now I am not saying that my car will always be perfect and without fault, cause chances are that it won't, but my attitude towards it will be that of what I have just mentioned. It worked when my handbrake failed on my 2000 Corolla Levin and Toyota told me there was nothing wrong with it. It worked when I had a rattle in the rear of my 2000 Corolla Levin and Toyota said it was the muffler mount, and it turned out to be loose nuts on the rear strut tower. It worked when the power steering failed on my 1995 Lancer and Mitsubishi told me 'it was the way I drove it' which was ironic cause it was happening when I drove it out the showroom. And it worked when A-Mart All Sports ripped me off with overcharging me for a pair of sports shoes and made me pay Full Price for an advertised special because the girl at the counter told me I should have come back to rectify the situation on the day of the special, not when I was reading the ad the next day. I apologise if I offended anybody but please just read the emotions in some peoples posts and then relook at it from an unemotive point of view. This is what I have done as I have come into this group without issues, and seen the emotions of the poeple that are having them. My suggestion now is this. Why doesn't one person arrange to create a detailed inventory of anybody reporting these faults and issues on this forum, and write on massive letter to Toyota detailing each issue with the intention of requesting that they address and correct each fault & problem. If the response in return is not a positive outcome, then contact the ACCC or Fair Trading enmass and have them intervene. If no positive outcome is achieved, then I am in full support of getting Ray Martin in on the act.... Cheers all, and safe motoring Regards Aaron
  11. Hi!!! I have Red Sportivo in Brisbane (Northside) Usual journeys are along Gympie Road Cheers Aaron
  12. The only difference between the 04 and the 05 'tivo will be the external styling ie, the 'tear' style front headlights on the current shape "STANDARD" Corolla and the round desinged tailights also on the current Corolla. All Sportivo's were released with 6 speakers (2 x Rear, 2 x Front door and 2 x Tweeters) and any Corolla with an August '04 production date or newer should also have MP3....
  13. Hi Cooley You will find that there may also be a couple of minor issues with the car relating to non-mechanical objects: 1) Driver's seat loosening, although not dangerous in it's issue, it still shouldn't occur. 2) Road/Engine noise interferance with the Cassette Player. Normally this type of problem is found with older vehicles with cassette player, but I guess someone just 'stuffed' up/ 3) Steering Wheel not fully aligned. 4) Incomplete paintwork around fuel filler door Hopefully this informations shouldn;t disparrage you from your enjoyment of your Sportivo Cheers Aaron
  14. I have had my '04 Sportivo for a few months now, and other than the gear box rattle which was fixed immeadiately by my local 'friendly' Toyota dealer, I have had no issues. I think what we have here is a situation where there are a lot of people expecting way too much of the car. For a $30K car, I expect to have minimal issues, and that's what I got. Although the car has the ability of being able to get up and boogying when required, it sounds to me like there are too many people expecting the thing to behave like a 200+kw non-compliancable import...... My advice is this, drive the car like a Corolla with slightly more balls than a standard Levin, then you'll learn to have fun and enjoy your Sportivo, with few issues.....
