  1. I have had my dash out three times due to rattles. This time they found the intrusion bar defective. The way the dealer expalined it, I believe it is telescopic then tack welded. The weld has broken and when the temperature goes up the outer expands then the inner rattles. Has anyone heard of this? Would love to see a picture if anyone has a workshop image? They have ordered the part and when it comes in my dash will be pulled out for the fourth time. Jinxed!!
  2. Both my sunvisors creak/rattle in up position. Anyone got a fix for it?
  3. My dash has been pulled out twice. The second time it was almost perfect. Now 6 weeks down the track there is a new ratttle, (not all the time) coming from behind the radio/cd head unit. I took out the centre console and head unit, the rattle sounds like it is coming from inside the heater somewhere. Has anyone experienced this. It is an entirely new sound to the original dash rattles. Really annoying
  4. Thanks DJKOR and DANOS, really appreciate your help. Just when I thought I was over the rattles, something new comes up! I will try your suggestions and let you know how I get on.
  5. Have had my dash pulled out twice and all was fine for a month. Now I have a new rattle, have taken out centre console, radio & AC unit, centre vents and can't find rattle, it sounds like it is coming from the top vent, see picture. Maybe something like a pebble has fallen through. How does this come out?
  6. Had something unusal happen to me, more like transmission flare. Spoke to the Toyota dealership, they advised is someone else had been driving the car previously, the auto learns that person's style. When you get in and drive it differently, it does not know what to do. Could that be it? It happened to me after the wife drove it for two hours then I jumped in and it has never happened since.
  7. Had my dash pulled out for the second time. They have a new fix kit, it is heaps better than the first fix, hope it lasts. Also had roof seem sealed for second time due to water getting in under long black trim on roof running from front to rear screen. Dealer also said they are waiting for a new a/c vent kit to fix the leaf sound permanently. 15000 klms and 5 months later, car is almost right!
  8. I experienced Transmission Flaring a few days ago. I discussed it with the dealership and they asked had we just changed drivers. The answer was Yes, my wife drives like a snail and was at the wheel for two hours, when I got in the seat it flared straight away several times. I drive a bit harder than her! It eventually stopped. The dealership reckons the transmission has a memory and got used to my wife's driving style, when I got in and gave it the boot it didn't quite know what to do until I retrained it after several minutes of my driving style. The flaring has not happened for 4 days so maybe there is some proof that the dealership was right. Any comments?
  9. Had my dash pulled out and refitted yesterday. Early signs are that the squeaks and creaks have gone. One small problem with the "A" pillar trim getting a scratch mark, but the dealer has ordered a replacement. Had new centre console vents fitted too to stop the "leaf noise" when air con on high. Can't understand why Blue can't get his fixed under warranty like me?? Great car even though have had to put up with several warrranty fixes.
  10. Will try, thank you. Other than moving the adjuster to the highest position, how do you "increase tension" in the belt? I see your clearance, interesting that when you make a sharp right turn the tension is high enough to not allow the 1" movement of the buckle. Thanks. Take it back to dealer and see if they can wind the spring in the seat belt drum.
  11. In regard to seat belt rattle, it may be a tension problem, I find if I have my seat belt shoulder strap adjuster on the highest position the buckle is further away from the pillar as there is more tension in the belt. Try that first and if still bangs see if they can crank up the tension in the belt to stop it banging when you do sharp turns. Check out my clearance in pics attached.
  12. The clunk noise is normal, the fins rattling is a known issue just as dash rattles and water leaking into boot side well. Talk to your service manager, I would say that they may suggest you drive it a bit more and give them a list of all warranty items and have them fix it all at one time.
  13. To calculate fuel consumption manually, (1) Fill your tank then zero set your trip meter. (2) Drive about 500 klm or until the low fuel warning light comes on. (3) Fill your tank again and note how many litres used and check your trip meter how many klms travelled. Example: 56 litres and 520 klms Calculate as follows, 56lit divided by 520 klms multiply by 100 = 10.76lt/100klm If you only use 48 litres and travel 520 klms 48lit divided by 520 klms multiply 100 = 9.32lt/100klm
  14. The air con noise know as the "leaf" sound is actually the vent fins rattling at a certain fan speed and vent direction, turn the vent fins a tad or reduce the fan speed and it goes away. I am getting mine replaced under warranty when they pull out my dash and fit new bigger dash clips and sound dampening against firewall. My seat belt makes a noise too if it is not carefully put back in place, make sure the buckle faces outward, there should be plenty of clearance between the trim, the buckle and the seat if carfefully put back in place.
  15. I have had my Prodigy for 3 months and have done 8,000 klms. I only get to 8.5Lt/100klm on the highway. Around the city in traffic it is abot 12Lt/100klm. I have kept manual statistics on consumption the whole time and find the reading is always better (lower) by about 0.2 which is reasonably acurate. I would say your consitent 8.5 figure is questionable!!!! You would be getting over 750 klms out of a tank, does that sound right?
  16. My dash is doing it too, the dealership say they have a fix for it with one being done already with an excellent result, no more creaks etc. I was concerned as to which mechanic could do this well enough and my service manager assured me he would only put the most experienced guy they had on to fix it. Will let you know also how I go. See also my post under "what problems have you had" Keep up the feedback everyone, it's a great car to drive but there have been some issues!
  17. Hey boz, can you tell me where the weld split is? Is it in the wheel arch area or around the back window? Thanks
  18. Has anyone else had water leak into boot passenger side well near wheel arch? I found a fair bit of water in there suggesting it is coming though the back window? Also my local dealership has got a fix for dash rattles. They tell me that the clips on the firewall were too small and did not have any sound dampeneing. They have pulled out one dash already with a perfect result. They use bigger clips and something to stop squeaks. My built date is Oct 2007.
  19. Can someone move this thread http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde...showtopic=13129 to this topic please. Anyone else had to get their rear window pulled out and re-sealed due to air bubble in seal compound.
  20. I found the cause of my "whir" nosie and rattle in back passenger window corner. I could reproduce the noise for my local service manager. It ended up being that the rear window had to be pulled out and resealed. Seems that air bubbles sometimes get into the sealing compound, the glass then rattles and wind gets into the cabin. They tell me I was unluckey as they have not seen this problem before. Any comments? Does someone want to move this thread to the "what problems have you had one". Thanks
  21. When travelling on the freeway, 80klm or faster, I get this lound "whir" noise from back passenger side. It only happens when there is a cross wind. I checked for loose trim on the outside of car and found a chrome strip on the window ledge fairly loose. I pulled it up and out and tightend the lug on the door skin last night. Haven't checked to see if it has worked yet. Also I have an internal rattle in the left rear passenger corner. Possibly leads going to the rear demister or antenna. Anyone else had these problems?
  22. No tinted windows. So can't be the problem. If you haven't got tinted windows, it still sounds like a bit of gunk on the seal. Try cleaning it anyway. Window could also be a bit out of alignment putting too much pressure against seal.
  23. Finally heard the "leaf noise" in the air con after three weeks. It is only when the fan is on max and in the left vent of centre console. It actually is a fin rattling at a certain angle. If you change the angle the air is coming out it goes away. Has anyone had this fixed at the dealership yet? Surely it is a quick fix without them having to pull apart dash? Perhaps there is a felt washer or such like missing to dampen the rattle!
  24. I picked up my new car and straight away the air con did not work. They fixed it next day, said that it was overfilled with gas and as a result as soon as you turned cooling on the ac pump cut out. Works fine now after letting some gas out. In regard to all your problems, have you tried talkingh to John Laws ther radio guy, in Victoria he is on every morning pushing Toyota big time. Ask him to help you. There is a web site for John Laws and cotact number 13 13 32.
  25. My new Aurion Prodigy has a drive train noise when cold. If you reverse when cold and then go forward, turning the steering wheel at the same time, you hear a soft clunk noise. I do not here it again until the next morning. I rang the service manager at the local dealership, he said it was a known happening but not to be concerned. When cold the engine is reving higher and the noise is simply take up slack in the drive train at high revs. Especially evident when going from reverse to drive! Has anyone else had this happen?
