  1. Just wondering did you get the sunroof installed and how did it go?

I am booking my car in to get a hollandia 700 for $2000.

I’m not trying to be a pessimist and don’t get me wrong i think sunroof's are great but isn’t that simply a ridiculous waste of cash ... I mean 2 grand..... That’s seems to be quite allot to spend on a sunroof that won’t really increase the resale value of the car at all....

  2. i just went downstairs to the car to have a look / check

i think the clutch and its height etc is fine ... the problem seems to be more in the gearbox (possibly just my shifting)

it seems that when im shifting from 1st to 2nd im pushing way to far to he left ... as if im shifting into the reverse gear but shifting down offcourse (not upwards)(remember its a sportivo so reverse is next to 1st)

it just seems that the resistance that used to be present between reverse and 1st / 2nd area has dissipated a little bit ... or maybe its just me pushing to hard to the left instead of maintaining my 1st to 2nd down the 'side wall' .... im not sure

i think alot of times things like this are in my head... or maybe my 2nd gear syncro is going?

  3. After getting my car back from the last service a few weeks ago, I haven't been able to engage second gear over 7500RPM. Now i'm not sure if Toyota adjusted my clutch pedal or it was just time for an adjustment, but it drove me nuts!!!!!!!! I would either brake my arm trying to get it into second or it would crunch second when the clutch was fully depressed.

Now working full time, I only ever have time to take my car to Toyota every 10000km.

Tonight after it again crunched with my clutch fully depressed, I had enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Driving like this was going to destroy my second gear syncros!!!!!!(Fn Toyota design flaw, they should have done a Recall the bastards)

I decided to adjust to adjust the clutch myself!!!!!!!!!

I opened the tool pouch that came with my Rolla, got out the 14mm spanner.

Got under the dash where the clutch pedal (Time 6:38PM).

I loosened the lower nut, then turned the upper bolt a few times.

I then tightened the lower nut (Time 6:39PM)

Then I took it for a drive.

It engaged second perfectly within in lift first go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 6 more 1st to second lift changes, its smooth and hits lift between gears no problem.

All it took was a 14mm spanner (which comes with the Rolla) and 1 minute of my time.

Attached Photo, of what needs to be done!!!!!!

Hope this helps out some of you out!!!!!

im having the exact same problem (lift wil engage 50% of the time from 1st to 2nd shifts....) ill attempt to do the same procedure ... how many times did u tighten and loosen the bolts?

  4. what exactly do the 'blue thingy' and 'brown thing' (i think u refer to them as the VSV ....) do - also what do the vaccum lines that come out of the stock airbox do .. if u block them off when u put the cai in ... what happens when u take the cai out ... are they necessary???

  5. The 2 vaccum lines (tiny in diamter) that plug into the top and bottom of the corolla airbox - are they needed?????

the 2 tiny platic pieces that they plug into snapped off when removing the airbox (tried superglueing them back on.... doesnt work) so i have just blocked the ends up ... car drives 100% normally though

there is a faint whilstly murmor sound when u have the windows open but with windows closed nothing is evident

what do these vaccum things do (and the strange clip on thing that has the brown ends that clip into each other ... [this clips on the front of the airbox] the pipes/vaccums come from there......

    can anyone help?

  6. I'm due to take my 2003 Corolla auto sedan into its 100,000km service soon. I bought it not too long ago at 95,000km. But anyway my question is, is it normal for for it to idle at around 2000rpm for maybe 3-5 minutes when you start the engine and while it warms up? It does slowly come down to below 1000rpm, but it sounds like it may be revving high when initially igniting and while the engine is still cold. When I've driven previously and then go back to start my car, and start the engine with the engine temp still close to the normal middle range, the revs go to below 1000rpm pretty quickly if not instantly.

my 1st 03 corolla hatch (auto) which i bought at 26,000ks did the same thing, i think its normal!

  7. Wondering what you guys thought about this stivo. It is a 2003 model silver sportivo being totally standard apart from the electric sunroof and other minor mods like paint protection and eye lid protectors. Kilometres are at 44000kms. They are looking to let the car go at $20000 but i'm trying to negotiate them to $19000. What do you guys think of this price for the car. Car looks like it is in immaculate condition.

I'm looking at getting a sportivo now asap as my old rolla is sold as of today so i wont have a car for maybe a week or 2 while i look for one now. But that doesn't mean i'm going to take just anything that comes along. My main aim is to find one under 50000kms priced at $20000 or lower unless it has some good mods that i want and i might consider higher price.

    sounds pretty good

i bought my 03 stivo in August 06 with about 50k on the clock for $19,500 but PERFECT condition, paint, interior etc so i was very happy

    good luck!

  8. Strangest thing

(Comparing Mobil 6000 95 octane to Mobil 8000 98 octane)

I have always used 98 octane in my sportivo but last time i filled up with 6000 because they were out of 8000 and have noticed something strange

There is no doubt there is more power / better throttle response using 98 octane how ever, using 95, all the rattles the engine used to make have seemingly disappeared.... the engine sounds better and seems to have a more stabilised / even power delivery.....

Am i going nuts or could this be true??

  9. When you get a gear knob you have to be careful as many of these aftermarket ones will sit very high up and look wierd.

what about the TRD one u can get of eBay etc... is it much heavier?

i find alot of vibrations and noises seem to be coming from the gear knob area .... any one else find this?

whats the weight of the stock sportivo knob?

  10. Under the bonnet, the rectangular box behind the battery, from memory the one fuse is for the interior lights and the radio, so replace it and it should be good.

Aren't all the fuses located in the black box on the right of the battery? Cause I don't see any box behind the battery.

I’ve blown this fuse 2, from memory it’s the purple fuse (i think 15) ... it controls ur interior lights, audio, clock etc

i took it to an autoelectrician ... he pulled appart the car and then checked fuses.... (the fuse costs like nothing i think 20cents ... but i had to pay for the time ...)

    I learnt this a costly way … :(

  11. I have noticed a problem in lift that has happened twice so far now this week, When in lift some times it dosent come on normally

I think that the car gets to about 6500RPM then remembers it should be in lift and kicks in then, It only happens in second gear....

Anyone had this happen, or know the possible cause??

Both times it has happened i havent been paying as much attention as i should, so if this dosent make sense I will see if it happens again and see exactly what goes on...

    Cheers in advance

lift doesnt always engage at 6100 , sometimes kicks in a bit later

  12. It's normal, it's just the clutch and flywheel working hard because you aren't using enough revs and it's almost stalling.

Blip the throttle a bit and it will be all good, you can't drive this car like an auto...

    aggreeeeeeeeeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

she loves to rev and gets awsome fuel consumption so why bother with keeping the revs so low .... it almost seems like the tacho is incorrect (for example 2,000 revs in a honda civic is equivalent to like 3,000 in our sportivo)

drive her like she is sposed to be driven !! :)

  13. If I may add, hatchbacks are tend to be more noisier than Sedans.

    how come is that?

When looking to buy my Rolla, I first hired a hatch then drove two more demonstrator hatches from the dealer. All came with a soft rattling sound from the rear, like plastic against metal. I've read elsewhere that maybe this is because unlike the sedans, the hatches are built in South Africa. I tend to think it's all the flaps and bits of moving upholstery hanging down behind the rear seats. Anyway, I ended up buying a sedan. No more rattles. Still lots of road noise, so I don't think the trunk is insulating me from rear wheel road roar. Try saying that four times.

    1. NOT all hatches are built in SA ... I had a 03 Corolla Ascent and as the VIN indicated it was built in Japan, i think more hatches were built in Japan than SA.

ALL corollas SPORTIVO's were built in SA!

    2. Comments like this are a bit ridiculous these days as MANY BMW's, Mercs, Audi's etc built in SA ... and they maintain there quality
