It makes driving in this wet weather challenging......only thing I hate is the fact that spinning in the first two gears is oh so easy
in the sportivo, in the wet, 1st and 2nd are almost impossible to use lift ... wheel spinning is nuts .... 3rd is fairly easy though

picts dont load....

I have the AEM CAI installed 2 months ago on my 03 stivo. Yup, it's great on the top end, especially during lift and you will said "WoW"
The only cons with the CAI is my car use lot more petrol than before, and slower on the low end (1000~3000rpm) with just the CAI mod.
I think, CAI is good if getting mod with exhaust and ECU, or something like E-managment or CAMCON.
did you do an ECU reset??
i get better fuel consumption with CAI.. before was getting 580-620 ks a tank (i drive HARDDD though so i was happy) now i get 650-700 ... still driving VERY hard and stilll very very happy :)
always used 98 octane fuel though...

BEST mod u can do for your money :)
i put my AEM CAI in and the change is incredible... i don’t know if u actually feel an increase in 'power' perse butt u certainly hear it ... from 4k up it has heaps more (nice sounding) noise.. and once u hit 6k .... it screams!
its possible u loose a tiny bit low down .. and when i saw tiny i mean tinyyyy! but the low down im referring to is like below 2k which in a Sportivo u dont rev / change much at anyway due its nature
for 300-360 bucks u cant go wrong ... btw AEM, TRD... they all good :)

My clutch was going. When doing about 4000rpm without even touching the clutch if you gave the accellerator a little bit of a poke the clutch would slip. I think it had only done about 65000km, but that is mainly city driving and I bought the car and went from auto to this, so I had a few smelly clutch times, and my girlfriend has a yaris with an incredibly light feeling clutch and she has burnt my clutch a few times aswell.
I changed up to a Exedy sports clutch and changed the flywheel to a lighter one while it was all apart anyway and I wouldn't Look back. It feels very so smooth now.
im in exactly the same situation as u ... i learnt manual on this car etc
btw i tried the advice given earlier by Rosegum... my car didnt stall :(
-
Easy test is to pull the handbrake up as tight as you can get it, lift the revs to 1500 rpm, put it in first and let the clutch out real slow. If the engine stalls u're ok, If the clutch is on its way out the engine will drop revs but not die.
You may have a warped plate though which can grip most of the time but slip when fairly hot.
best to change the clutch in both situations.
ill give it a go....

Ive done 94k, it depends on how hard you treat the clutch. Ive know of clutches that have gone after 40k but the person was launching hard and smoking the wheels up every chance they had....
ive been pretty good to it ... lauched it like a handful of times over its entire life... (bought the car at like 30k) off a middle aged 45 year old guy who seems like the responsible type ...(will never know realy but still)
-
Thats what you will find when it's going, you will need to rev the car more to get it to take off
thats a bit depressing ... 65k isnt all that much ?
-
I know mine is on the way out because the friction point is almost at the end of the when the pedal comes up off the floor. I guess the fact that the clutch slips almost every take off also tells me that its gone
my friction point seems to be about the same as its ever been (very near the top)
Ive noticed its harder to rev just enough (say 2 grand or so) and take off smoothly ... like im revving more when taking off.... (maybe my driving getting worse?)
-
How do you know when your clutch is gone??
I’m on 65k ... and am getting the feeling my clutch is 'stuffed'... I’m not sure if its my mind set (i.e. I’ve convinced myself i need a new clutch) or if its actually gone...
I’m finding now i need to release the clutch a lot slower than i used to ... ??
I’m also finding that when i change gears... particular 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd ... they don’t slot in as smooth as they used to (it was never that smooth to begin with as stivo gearbox is a lot stiffer than others) ...
Any input would be appreciated

mine grinds pretty loud too if i change straight away, i let it stop for about 2 seconds then i change. same as badboyz
Exactly the same for me ...
every time it 'grinds' i worry im severely farking up the gear box :( ...

Hi!
I am proud new owner of a 05' Corolla Sportivo!!! I've only had it for a day but damn am in love with this thing!
I have been trolling the forums for about a week now, and I have a couple of questions... I know these have been covered previously, and sorry if I p*** anyone off.
1. CAI for face lift. (The answer please!)
2. Leather/Interior care (Previous owner didn't even bother to clean it for me :/)
P.S I'm from South Brisbane/West End (Stock black Sportivo), so if anyone around there sees someone booting it in 2nd gear down Cordelia Rd/Montague Rd that's me (until the novelty wears off ;D).
1. AEM, TRD, CES etc etc CAI's all fit facelift
2. Use Meguiars leather car foam for interior ... fantastic stuff
-
I'd fight that. It's stock from the factory wtf are you supposed to do? Stupid police. Just don't understand VVTLi or V-tec.
"You are a pirate! THE HIGH CAM PIRATE! YAARRR!"
the CAI does make it loud!! :)
technically the CAI could be said to be part of exhaust system ...?? if you do fight it probz best to remove CAI
-
i find it almost impossible to hit lift / change gears at 6k plus in the wet - NO traction lol
i put on yokohama c drive tyres hoping for a bit better results which .... in the dry they are substantially better than the stock bridgestones but in the wet not very different
-
ive got the same issue man
your clutch is about to go !!
u might notice it slipping every now and again
time for a exedy HD clutch
approx how much does a exedy HD clutch cost.. + installation??
ive done about 81 k in my car ... it slips every now and then ... i think the clutch may be going (i learnt to drive manual on this car ... :( i think i gave it some extra wear and tear)

very niceee and clean!! i'm pretty sure u can lower you car 30mm, all insurance place should accept that!! dont they?
Im currently with AAMI
CAI is insured and on the policy!
i have asked many times before and i will not be covered for modifying the suspension (with AAMI at least) and i cant risk stuffing up this policy considering im 19 and listed as a full time driver and only paying $760 comprehensive insurance a year
I have tried ALL the other insurance companies and AAMI is hundreds / thousands cheaper for me
NRMA wanted $4189 a year and wouldn’t cover the CAI!

got to disagree with u mate
i had an auto 2003 corolla hatch and changed it for a manual (yes i got a Sportivo this time) but i drove the normal manual corolla (an 04 hatch model) and it has so much more torque and 'pull' feeling than the auto...
my biggest issue with the auto was if you were going between 20 and 50 k’s an hour up a hill ...... the car had like 0 power and took ages to build speed. Although i have a Sportivo now .... if I’m in 2nd going up a hill at 30 ks an hour ... it plenty of pull . (Remembering that the Sportivo has pretty much the same power as normal corolla below 6100 revs)
I realise the Sportivo is a 6 speed compared to the 4 speed auto … but I did in fact drive the normal manual corolla and found it substantially more powerful than the auto

nice shots taken, any mods you planning to do?
at the moment all i have really done is the
AEM CAI
6.5 in dash tv/dvd head unit
Levin Grill
Colour Coded the rear mudflaps
I wanted to lower the car but due to insurance reasons im unable to.
Im not really sure what else i wana do in the future, usually just spur of the moment things

When i was lookin at sportivos, the weight of some of em varied.
just wna know how much other stivos weigh.
mines 1100kg
Sounds more like a corolla ascent/conquest which way 1070kg
stivos are at least 1200kg (1224 says Toyota)
btw something strange i have noticed
On the car rego (the new sticker you get in the mail) it has all the details correct but says my cars tare weight is like 1100 (cant remember exact number) which is far off the 1224kg Toyota states??
aftermarket power windows fitting

In my 03 corolla ascent i had power windows put in ...
i bought the kit off eBay (about $190) for all 4 windows which included everything!
I had Sun install them - his number is 0411 687 880 - $50 a window so 200 bucks and took him about 8 hours
worked well, power windows make huge diff
so all up about $390 so ur quote is a bit of a rip off
the only thing i didnt like was where the window 'adjuster' used to be ... was covered by little covers which looked crapy ish
