  1. I love this little game we have here on the forums, all of us bit by bit changing our cars, pooling our research, testing various methods...really keeps things interesting.

Yeah its good, I reckon in a years time we will have modifying the Aurion down pat, know what to do and what not to do. I originally bought the Aurion for many reasons but one was a promise to the Missus that I wont waste $$ modifying it....mainly because there wasn't anything out to modify with. That ideas out the door now.

Its also funny when one of us has a good idea, but we dont want to share it until we've done it. That way we are the original modder and no one beats us to it.

BTW, I'm working on a new project for my Aurion. Won't tell you guys about it yet, but once it's done I'll post pics. I'm sure there will be a few of you interested to follow suit! ;)

    Just like that ;) :D

Any hints? at least what part of the car it is modifying?

  2. Did anyone ever do anything about the section thats restricted down to 1"?

Are you referring to this piece of design excellence:

If so, I don't think anyone has yet eh. I'm thinking, it probably wouldn't be worth all the effort unless you have a complete system done for it (eg. dual pipes to the rear).

Yep that one, I figured as much.

Im looking around at the moment to see if the Lexus GS range has cat backs or anything else similar that we can bolt on with slight changes. So far though all I have found seem to be leaning to the right side more due to being RWD.

    Ill keep looking.

  3. Mick, were all searching buddy.

There's some intake mods listed in the Air Intake Mods thread. So far I THINK we have decided that a K&N drop in filter is the better option out at the moment.

There's no direct bolt on exhausts that I know of, unless you buy them from USA but thats too expensive. You can easily buy a universal muffler (at or under 16"x11"x6") and get your local exhaust shop to slap on some tips and either make up the 6" of pipe in the inlet, or cut the stock muffler off and weld the new one on. There's a few threads re: exhausts, including Varex's on here, just browse the forum topics. The stock exhaust system has a flange then a small bend and then into the muffler so we are lucky in that we only have to get that small section made up. PIc below shows what Im talking about.

No ones tried to tune it yet.....would be interesting to see.

  4. ^ Well done, but at the same time tsk tsk tsk .....

Fitting one of those to a TRD would have obvious benefits, but on a normal Aurion im not convinced it will make massive gains yet. Out of them all, the drop-in is my favoured one. Ill get one soon.

Toyota set the manual mode to 4th gear so when your cruising at highway speed it won't make the engine scream & blow up in first gear when you knock it over, and around town it wont splutter in 6th. 4th is about the middle & more 'sensible' for either situation. I dont see why it can't change over to the gear the Auto is currently in, would be better.

  5. So upset to hear this mate, Its pretty damn obvious you love your car and for someone to hurt it is devastating. Especially after putting all that time and effort into it.

I dunno if its an epidemic but a friend on another forum has a pretty schmick Forester and he now has creases up one side of the car & a buckled rim. Lets hope there's not a curse on modified cars.

Lets hope the insurance pays out and its fixed with no more hassles.

One thing....will your insurance be effected by the exhaust mod?

  6. Sorry if I have cast doubts on your proposed mods, but if you wanted a sports car then why did you buy a family car?

    A) Sports cars come with a multitude of downfalls, from resale value, practicality, size, not to mention the much higher price for a 'decent' sports car. I for one need a full size car for driving/meeting clients, I dont think they ill appreciate being cramped and uncomfortable in a smaller sports car.

B ) Aurion's are fairly sporty as is , Sportivo in particular with extra bracing etc. - I know its no where near a Porsche but the engine & driveline are quite spirited for a 'family car' as well.

    C) Alot of these owners have families (or planning to)...but the missus won't let us get a 2-seater or sports car for many womanly reasons which if we even tried to comprehend then our heads would explode.

I dont think anyone actually wants a full blown sports car, just some 'enhancements' to make it more sporty.

  7. I'm no expert by far but since the LS460 is a rear wheel drive V8 i'd hazard a guess that its based on an entirely different chassis. Therefore, in my opinion, the simularities between the Aurion and the LS460 is almost coincidental if not just a family resemblance.

RWD leads me to believe the rear bumper might be different even though it looks the same. The only resemblences I need are the rear bumper & front bumper, the rest doesn't bother me......but it would be cool to graft one of the aftermarket 3 glob LED lights they have...

But in the end- I'll only need the rear lip that is in the second picture, and if the rear end is the same width wise there shouldn't be toooo much hassle. I prefer the smooth bootlid too but Ill have holes there from the Sportivo wing so I'd rather cover it with something subtle than buy an AT-X boot and swap all the bits over or get it filled & repainted.

Front end will be costly but I think it won't be too difficult cos they are similar with & general shape...not like fitting a WRX bumper on a Daihatsu Mira....
