Minor rear end mod. Part 1.
-
Thought I should just start a build up thread instead of new threads each mod.
So far:
* 2006 Aurion SX6, silver
* Debadged & black 'T'
* 'Sports' mesh grill (not installed)
* Blackened headlight surrounds
* Painted engine cover
Planned:
* Exhaust - Varex or muffler swap, 'squashed' bit....few ideas but nothing certain yet. Want quad tips badly.
* Body - Rear skirt made to fit Quad tips, alter Sportivo kit or replace with other lip kit, or custom ideas...nothing certain yet
* Engine - toooo many expensive ideas.
* Stereo - speaker replacement & small sub, maybe 7" screen (not Auspack)
* Suspension - Rear sway bar, either coilovers or lowering springs/shocks
* Wheels - either re-spray current wheels in a gunmetal colour or go some 18/19"s in gunmetal
* Tinted windows..maybe tail lights
Ill update with pics & DIY as I go.

Its happened to me a few times too.
Best thing is to take console out & fix it that way - you'll get no where trying from the top.
-
i'm VERRRRRYYYYYYYY tempted with the exhaust though...
I think the TRD exhaust is a Borla item...dont think its really worth the extra amount of money compared to a decent muffler. I've asked a local dist. and they said its well over a grand...for 2 mufflers.

bloomin' heII.

Yep if you lodged a tax return last financial year (not too late if you havent) & earned under $100k, between $80-100K there's less of a payout. Pretty sure there's a minimum too but I dont know it?
Comes in April some time.

Sorry to hear buddy, been made redundant before because of the slump in real estate market...but I was lucky that a family friend had a job going in their agency the next town over so I was good.
Hope it works out for you.

Well, there's only one way to find out! As soon as I pick up some alloy, I'll do a SRI for somebody's car out of my own pocket, if they like it they can buy it for cost.
We also need an Aurion just to check out some things on the exhaust, no cost is involved to anybody. I was talking to my manager, he said he's happy to spend a day playing around with different exhaust systems as long as they are committed to buying the finished product.
Do you mind paying for my car to go on the Indian Pacific & transported up & back to me?
Joking. But I'm keen to see the results.....

This is the join on the Kluger.
It looks neater than the Aurion.
Is that were the 2 pipes meet? Having a hard time following it.
-
Dont mind those 5 spoke ones with the white inside you posted just then...would look good but you'd need to keep them clean all the time cos brake dust will never go away.

Both me & partner get it so were putting 1 payment on debt & 1 payment on furniture for the house......or car stuff if she lets me....

A 2009 NRL Footy Tipping comp has been started on www.footytips.com.au for us TOCAU'rs...
Name of competition is 'TOCAU' and password to enter is 'toyota' (obviously)
Good Luck!

Im getting more & more keener on the Varex.
But would wan a oval muffler as opposed to a milo tin style one & bit unsure about clearences with the offset entry/exit on the stock mufflers.
EDIT: Darryl - price is same for oval or cannon Varex's unless suppliers are willing to discount.
-
Id go the first 2 only....
-
that great big centre muffler would have to be taken out of the system for there to be any noise changes I think.
Hey Andrew! Hows the Kluger running?
Re: centre resonator - We Aurion boys have been trying to get an exhaust together & Im imagining it would be pretty similar to the Kluger's.THIS MAY BE OF INTEREST.
Link to some more pics & swaps - HERE
And while were at it - do you guys have the dramatically squished part where the front & rear header pipes meet? Like this \/
-
I actually dont mind the kit. The front looks alot squarer & the bottom lip doesn't stick out too far on the front bumper. Makes it look less 'supercar' & more 'sports car'.
Is this kit readily available?
-
Interesting....
Not sure about the taillights, the round ones suited the sports models so the base ones can have the new set.
Id be interested to see more pics of the front bumper & what the Sportivos look like with that bumper....
-
Just to clarify - I didnt buy it. The $1600 would have thrown me off even if it was the perfect fit. I would have taken a pic to the exhaust shop & said 'do that'. Im going to have to go to a shop to do what I want to do cos I dont have the equipment to do it at home.
I never said I was going to buy it, merely that I found it & it gave me another idea. So no, Im not dumb with my money.

i no the guy.....just a 1st model foz 2L with a CAI, rex turbo, exhaust and BOV THATS IT
Haha...trust me I used to own a Forester, they aren't slow.
U got a pic of his car? I might know him. PM if you want
-
i got beaten by a VERY MINORLY modded 2L forester.....
Do you remember the number plate? I know heaps of Foz's up your way...some of them are more modded than you think.

Yesterday was a loooong day so I did a comprehensive search to find other Asian Camry (aurion) items which we want/need.
Came accross this perfect piece, solved the problem of the squished header pipes at the flex joint. Its made for a Toyota Alphard which is a Japanese minibus kinda thing like a Tarago. Shared the same 2GR-FE engine & gearbox, not 100% sure but think it might have been based on the same chassis.
After taking the pics home and trying to turn the laptop around numerous times while looking under the car...I dont think it will fit right. Never expected it to be a 100% perfect fit, maybe small modifications, but I cant seem to see it fitting at all??? Someone else have a look & tell me. ......oh and that piece costs $1600 AUD without postage from Japan.
Gave me an idea though as to fixing the squashed pipe problem. My latest idea is to re route the front header pipe a little higer than it sits now & slighty to the left (looking at car from the front). Then get the rear header following the same path now, but then dip underneath the front pipe & then connect to the flex joint on the RIGHT side instead of the left cos its too sharp an angle. I'd attach both pipes to a 2-1 collector cone.
My biggest problem is when the rear pipe dips under the front pipe, it may hang too low & snag on rocks or whatever...Im hoping by bending the front pipe higher it will give enough room, bending it to the left gives enough of an angle for the collector cone. Ill install a shorter flex joint if need be to give me more length to play with.
If the pipe does dip too low then I may look at running the rear header pipe towards the front of the car until there is enough clearence & then go under & back on the opposite side. BUT will cause problems bu having uneven pipes etc....
A very dodgey MS Paint representation. Hopefully the rear header pipe wont need to be that long.
Ill have to check all clearances & lengths before I can decide.

Ever seen a drag car or modified street machines with auto box?...they are on pretty much all of them. Waste of $ on a Rolla.
