Alright guys i'm new into this whole car maintenance thing but i'm picking up real fast and really getting into it. I have a 1991 Toyota Corolla Hatch AE90 and was wondering what is the best engine oil to use for it as i'm starting to get low and am unsure on what type is best for it.

Also I have been told by mechanics that my rear shockies are on their way out and was wondering what brand to replace them with.

Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks

your car is quiet old, so really it doesnt matter what oil you put in it to be honest. just buy a good decent oil, not a no frills brand..

as for shocks...it depends what sort of dollars u want to spend...your learnin about cars? well u will soon learn that it all comes down to $$$

As your car gets older it's advisable to gradually use thicker oils. I say grab your owners' manual and read what it suggests, and then add 5 or 10 to the first number. Example: owners manual says 5W-30, use 10W-30 or 15W-40.
