I am having problems selecting reverse gear in my 1993 auto camry wagon. Checked transmission oil level. Problem seems worse when car pointing uphill.

Transmission specialist suggested complete dismantling of transmission which may not been worth it. Appreciate any advice.

maybe due for a new transmission?? are the other gears operating okay?? how are the gear changes...is it very sluggish?? unfortunately automatic gear boxes cost an arm and a leg to repair or replace....best bet is find a real cheap second hand one....bt labour is gonna cost u a bit.....good luck mate

Tks for reply. Forward gears are fine. Gear changes are smooth. It just has trouble selecting reverse. Once the gear lever is in R, can wait 30 seconds until you feel the gear engage. Once engaged reverse works fine too. First step may be to get the gearbox flushed out.

yeah i think flushing it will be good too....perhaps u may not need a full gearbox change...ask the mechanic to check the R gear...coz it jst might be the gear stick...thts wat it sounds like....
