Hi guys. First post.

I have a 2003 1ZZ FE Corolla (Australia). The car has 150,000Kms on the clock but is in good condition and serviced regularly.

Yesterday the oil pressure light has started blinking. Today I noticed the engine has also started to rattle when the light flashes. Checked the dipstick, full to the top mark. I then drained the oil and changed it (did not replace filter, it was late...). Took it for a spin and the light continues to flash and the engine rattles a little at times. Obviously this is an oil pressure issue but where do I start to diagnose and repair it?

Here's something interesting, the oil on the dipstick was as clean as honey (before changing the oil) but the oil in the sump was as black as soot and thin <_< Ive never seen this before.

Thanks in advance.

FYI

Changed the filter for a $7 no-name. Problem fixed.

From what I can gather, the OEM filter has 2 valves inside. It seems that at least 1 of them musta failed and prevented the oil from running back into the sump easily. I'll be replacing the $7 filter with an OEM unit just the same.

Thanks for your input.

If the light is flickering and you have got rattles so to speak then you may have big end and main bearings in some trouble.
