Something wrong with my engine?

I don't exactly know how this came about or how this came to be. But now when I accelerate as I use to, my car moves but very very slowly. Usually I can get into 2nd gear then 3rd gear at every 3000rpm. Now I need to get to 4000-4500rpm and its still slower than before. I did a minor service just recently and they found nothing wrong with my engine. Also this occured around the time when i tried using BP ultimate (which my friend suggested), I usually use caltex 98.

I am a little worried something is wrong with my engine or I could have damaged my engine somehow. Any ideas on what I should do. (My car is fairly old, 2000model 122000km on the odo).

it would be your gearbox?

or your clutch...

try something

put your handbreak on

be stationary

put it into 5th gear

rev it to about 5000 rpm

then drop the clutch

if it doesnt stall straight away then your clutch is gone

if it stalls then its something in your gearbox

take it to a gearbox specialist

Thank you striker8881,

I did what you said and it took a while for my car to stall. If what you say is correct then its definately my clutch. I'm going to take it for service tomorrow. I'm glad it wasn't my engine, given me much relief.

yer it will be your clutch then

i would say it will be about $900 for a new one installed?

good luck with it =]

Ask around, there's quite a few mechanics who will do it for a LOT cheaper than that. Mine installed my clutch for free while he had my engine out.

It's definitely your clutch too, no questions asked.

A genuine Toyota clutch kit is roughly $420 from memory. I got a really basic Bosch kit for about $180, bringing the total to $650 with labour. Toyota WILL charge over a grand to do the work, so I definitely recommend looking around. Insist on getting your rear main oil seal done at the same time, whether it needs it or not. It's a $10 gasket that will cost you another $500 labour to replace if it starts leaking before your next clutch swap.
