Recommended Posts

hi, i drive a 2003 corolla sportivo,

my front left hub holding the wheel is extremely loose,

i was wondering if you could tighten it, is it possible to do it yourself? or do you have to replace the whole hub?

if so how much would this cost?

thanks

tiet.

a new bearing is ~$80 from CBC, the actual hub (The part that presses into the bearing center) shouldn't be that much more. You shouldn't need to replace the carrier that the bearing race presses into, and you'll only need to replace the actual hub if the bearing has spun on the hub and gauled the shaft surface.

Re-pack the new bearing with some good high-temp wheel bearing grease, take it to a mechanic and it should taken them less than an hour labour to replace it if they know what they're doing.

well hopefully i don't have to get set back $600+, if its only going to cost me $200ish i'd be happy with that, thanks for the replies everyone,

if anyone else has an idea please post :)

i will post details after my friend checks it out when he has the time, i want to be completely sure what the problem is, i dont want to get ripped off lol

ok found out the problem, some how the big nut in the middle came loose the one that holds the whole unit thing to the drive shaft, you know the big bolt in the middle of the stud pattern. not sure how it came loose but it did, tightened it and sounds gone thanks for all the help though
