Just got a new Corolla Ascent, in the manual there is an option for double locking. This just means that when you press the lock button on the key twice in 5 secs the car door can't be open from inside the car. This doesn't seem to work on my car, anyone here has this feature installed?

When booking the car I asked about installing an alarm but I did asked if there was a feature on the alarm where the door can't be open from inside and they said no as it was not safe as you could lock someone in. But obviously you won't double lock if someone was in the car and the sales person did not seem to know of this feature so I did not get the alarm.

When collecting the car I asked if the car door was lock using the remote and open using the valet key could the boot still be open from inside the car and he said no but I tried and it can still be open! Read the manual only way to deactivate the boot latch in the car is turn the trunk lock from outside anti-clockwise.

The double locking feature is only avaliable on the Levin ZR and Ultima Models, and unless the windows have been tinted, both front door windows have a label "Toyota Auto Alarm with Double Locking" to indicate that this feature is present. This feature works in conjunction with the smart entry and start system and to activate the double lock, there is a small black "lock" button next to the front door keyhole which you press once to lock, and a second time within 5 seconds to activate the double lock function. The function can also be performed by the same method using the smart entry and start key/remote. The system buzzer also "beeps" once to indicate lock and twice to unlock. All Corolla models however have the indicator flash once (lock) and twice (unlock) for the remote central locking, which the function can be customised i believe, check towards the back of the owners manual.

Yes so with ascent since its just the normal key not the smart entry I do not have this feature. I believe the alarm system sold by the dealer is an aftermarket not sure if its toyota. Did anyone manage to get a toyota alarm system for the ascent with the double locking? I have seen in some forums people buying it and installing it but not sure which toyota alarm. Another way is to get the sticker and put it on the windows to deter ppl from breaking-in as it did happen with the previous car  .

So the Levin ZR has an alarm? I had read that in a description somewhere. Is it standard or an option? What does it do/how is it integrated?

Its a standard on a levin and it has the smart entry and start system and the standard car alarm. I wanted the audio buttons on the steering but its only a factory option and I wonder now if the toyota alarm is factory option too. I don't mind installing an after market one but its just the matter of warranty as I had ask about installing reverse sensors on my own and they warn that if anything goes wrong with the electronics its not covered with warranty.

Which are the good car alarms out in the market? Does it come with double locking?
