Do I Need A New Headunit?

Peter, everything runs fine and the quality is great...

Running amps for speakers and single 12 inch sub...

Stock speakers sounded pretty poor but now they're being run off the amp and tuned by me they sound 100 times better, everyone thats been in the car agrees with me on that one...

The sub is being run by a mono block amp and needed to be turned down less than half as it was way too bassy, car or system had no troubles running at all :) :) :) ...

Ahh if that's the case, I'll just get that then. It's worth a try; if I don't like it, I guess I just have to buy a headunit haha.

All I have to do now is decide on which amp & sub to buy and save up a bit more =) hehe

Btw, you said that you tuned the stock speakers.. you meant tuning them as like adjusting the screws, right?

AND Thanks for the reply! Very helpful!!

Peter

iVaz, dont get a mechanic to do it, it's not their line of work...

You'd be better off taking it to a car audio specialist... And I don't mean Strathfield or JB Hi Fi lol...

You need to find a custom car sound shop that only deals with car sound, they would be the guys to do the job for you...

Peter, tuning the stock speakers was done via the amplifier with the adjusting screws...

The screws on the line converter I left at about half way and let the amps do the rest...

you just gotta join 4 wires to the speaker wires to the adaptor.. 30 minutes tops.

but do you have the wiring kit, amp and sub for it already? if youve got it but need it installed, might as well get a car audio place to do it.

yea and you gotta remember to get all this stuff installed will set you back a bit too, best to find a mate or someone you know to help you install it, cause amps and subs are the easiest thing to install, i did all my own install on my sound system, anything i wasnt sure on i googled it :P

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experiences with buying from Ryda (www.ryda.com.au) or Soundmaster (www.soundmaster.com.au) and online stores like these?

Thanks!

Ive actually got a high to low level converter for my stock head unit to run amps.

i got it from Jaycar for 17 bucks and it works perfectly. sound quality was pretty good.

you should check it out on jaycar.com.au under 'car accessories'

Did you cut off your rear speaker wires and joined it through to the converter? if you did, then rewire it back to the rear speakers and just 'tap' in the line converter with the rear speakers. you dont need to disconnect the rear speakers or any speakers whatsoever. the conveter will still work even if you just 'tap' in it.

as for the remote wire, the only place u can get ignition is behind the headunit or the ignition barrel.

my advice, find the ignition wire in the back of the head unit and connect it through there..

i did all my wiring behind the head unit, so all i needed to do after that was run the rca and remote wire to where the amp is located.

lets not forget about the +ive wire... lol

one more thing, make sure that you have got the right speaker wires. otherwise there will be no sound.

heres a link with the wiring diagrams behind your head unit
