Cleaning Caked on Brake Dust

Evo7

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

looking for solutions of how i can clean my wheels, someone took their car to the track too much, and never got the chance to clean them...

anyways, i have been reading, and a good one i will try is the warm soapy water on them. Also, is it ok to clean your wheels when they are hot, or is it better to do them when cooler... i have already removed a fair amount of the caked on brake dust on the silver bits, but how can i get the black to look well polished/reflective?

Also looking to shine the wheels (rubbers) up, and make them look shmicko, advice/recommendations?

Thanks,

Evo

I used Meguiars 'Hot Rims' (or wheels) which was good. Depending on the rim you can just spray it on, soak then scrub with an old dish washing brush & hose off.

Alrite,

i will try some of these methods tonight,

is it better to try when the wheels are hot (been running for a period of time)

or cold/cooled down?

don't leave the wheel cleaner on the rims for too long though, as it can make the finish hazy and will require work to get back to the normal finish. just reapply the cleaner if need be between rinsing, and dont use any brush with metal scourers (obviously)

If your Wheels are hot, its likely your brakes are also hot.

When your brakes are hot and come in touch with a hose you run the risk of warping the discs!

If you're going to be cleaning the wheels properly, then chances are you'd take them off the car first....
