HI. I am a newbie to this site and to my new-2003 Tarago. Never drive a van before. As I just started to accustomed to the car, the engine stall when I was driving them only couple of days out from dealer. It happen to me twice and once when my husband was behind the wheel. 3 times in less then a week!. Happen in the morning as we got out of the garage and near corner turns (different corners). Although new to driving van, I have been driving for over 20 years of various cars (just in case someone give me a cheeky comment as per understeer topic) and never have this problem before. Now, the engine malfunction light came on... Is Tarago as reliable as it should be? It just came out from Toyota extended 3 yr warranty in Dec 08 from previous owner. Now the dealer wants me to drive the car to his mechanic in Bankstown. I am near Artarmon. Will it be safe to drive?

Thanks for all the input in advance.

Ring the dealer and tell him you feel the car is unsafe to drive that far especially if you have children and get him to tow the car to his mechanic . did you get dealer warranty?

I did have the warranty. I did express my concern about the safety. He insisted that I see his mechanic (as he has a deal with them) and if anything happen on the way there, he will sort it out... not very comforting and I am not very happy either, cos he won't let me see other mechanic. Do I have a choice?

If you're out of warranty then you can take it anywhere you like to have the work done...

Take it to Chatswood Toyota, our service department is located at 12 Marden Street Artarmon which is nice and close for you... Call up on 9206 6966 and get it booked in :)

When the engine stalls, the engine light will always come on along with the reds but thats normal...

Engine could be stalling due to a number of things but I'd mainly be looking at the air flow sensor as a start...

A similar thing also happened to our 2003 GLX, it turned out that the computer needed to be flashed with an updated firmware - apparently an issue with the previous firmware that would cause the engine light to come on if the sensors didn't respond in a shorter time.
