Changing radio head unit in 2005 Corolla Ascent

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, this is my first post here, so .. hi!

A few months ago I purchased a 2005 Toyota Corolla, the existing radio in it is very bad at playing CD's. It just doesn't seem to be able to read 99% of the discs I put in, or one song it can read fine, the next it cant. Anyway, I have pulled my Sony Xplod CDX-GT570 out of my old 89 Camry and I want to put it in to my new car.

I haven't changed a radio head unit before, I got the guys from Strathfield to do it in my old camry, and I am a bit scared of breaking anything. I also have a nokia hands free kit (see pic attached, small round thing to the right of the time display). I want the hands free kit to still work when I hook the head unit in.

I'm also looking to get one of these a toyota corolla double to single din converter (http://www.dnaaudio.com.au/blowout_pages.html/toy_k960.html) for around $50 from autobarn.

So, does anyone have any advice or links to changing this thing?

Cheers!

Yeah still got all the guide books and stuff. Do I need to solder, or can I just get a wiring harness? I'd rather leave the car in a good condition (including wiring) for if incase I sell it.

The perfect advice from one corolla owner to another:

hey mate, welcome to TOCAU!!! :yahoo:

i have only just doen the same thing this past weekend, and here is what you 'can' do;

You can get a Wiring Harness adapter to go from the back of your aftermarket head unit to a 'splitter', then you can get a separate wiring harness that plugs into the previous one at the splitter end, then will plug into your Stock wiring for your car.

Easy to do if you choose this direction, but one thing though...

DON'T purchase the "double-Din" kit for the Corolla, IT DOES NOT FIT!!! i had to return mine, but that was all fine.

When you have your stock unit out, re-use the stock brackets and you will be fine, if you also re-use the spacers on the side, it will fill it up and come out looking very tidy, and you will need to get a Single-din holder.

Good luck mate, if you do it this way, much simpler to do, no wire cutting involved, and you have the option of returing to stock if you want to :P

The only difference is GROUND WIRE is BROWN on the newer corollas.

I bought a pocket din at JB for $19, fits perfectly
