SW20 power steering?

Hey guys,

I am looking at buying a '93 SW20 non-turbo MR2, and when I took it for a drive today the steering got very heavy at manuvering speeds and I assumed that the car simply didnt have power assistance. When I asked the seller about it he said that it does have power steering (which I believe is correct as I think only the Bathurst's didnt have power steering, is that right?)..

It doesn't truly matter to me whether the car has power steering or not, I just wanted to know if the extra weight added at manuvering speeds was a normal thing for MR2's or if it means there is a problem with the steering assistance that may need fixing.

The Bathurst Edition was the version of the SW20 without most power options in an effort to give it some more "sporting" feel and less "cruising/hairdresser" credentials. My gf had a SW20 GT-S which obviously was Turbocharged and no Power Steering I found it alright. It sounds like there maybe an issue with his P/S...

Was there any noise that sounded like a Pump was on the way out? Or any other sounds you can think of?

often the p/s relay plays up, many people replace them with bigger relays, i own a sw20 import and have had the relay play up once. Driving the car without p/s isnt that bad it just parking that is a little harder
