How to do replace automatic transmission shift indicator light? on camry 05. every time i turn on the head light, it won't turn it on. i have to bang it few time, then it turn on.

On the S4 I removed the back part of the consul and gained access to the globe.

I removed the bolts holding the consul under the lid and worked sowly checking what screws or movement required to remove without snapping anything

Doesn't sound like the bulb... since it works when you knock it.

I'd just check the harness into the unit's ok.

I'm pretty sure it'll just be that the globe has blown. I had the exact same problem where the light filament burnt out and by knocking on the light cover the the filament would make a connection again and light up. I replaced the light and there were no more problems.

About gaining access to the light there should be some bolts on the bottom of the console bin between the seats. Im not sure if the gen5's had any more bolts holding that part on.

I Fixed this exact problem today.

Take out the cup holder housing. Then just pull up on the surround around the handbrake and gear lever

Once that is off unclip the shifter housing. I did this with screw driver, just pushed the little tabs in. Then just pull the globe out.

Should find the replacement at any auto shop or servo if you lucky
