G'day all:

I just bought a 2002 Camry csi. 2.2l, it has done only 65000k. The audio system in it is very very basic one. I want to know if it is worthwhile to invest a genuine TOYOTA audio system for it, say a 6 stack cd player.

anyone with previous toyota camty audio system experiences please come in and leave your advices please. thanks in advance.

questions;1.availability of the units??

2.unit costs.

3.detrimental effects on the car???( alarm .... ect )

also: my owner's manual states: tyres are to be pumped to 210kpa which is 30psi!!(205/65r15)

isn't that too low of a pressure.

what pressure do you use?

few things that you may want to consider and will make answering your question easier for others here...

1. what is your budget?

2. what are you looking to acheive from the sound system? (ie increase in sound quality, functions etc)

3. do you plan on upgrading speakers/amps/subs/dynamat?

for the price of a lot of the genuine stuff, it may be worthwhile to look at an aftermarket headunit? check out brands such as Pioneer and Alpine..

Top of the range had unit? That would be the Clarion HX-D2. If you haggle you might get one for about $1,800 - $2,000. In other words you won't get top of the range on a $800 budget.

For that sort of money, I'd look at a head unit upgrade. You can get something very decent for around the $300-400 dollars from Alpine, clarion, eclipse, pioneer, etc. Then I'd swap the front speakers out. Not sure what fits the front doors of the camry, I'd hazard a guess at a shallow 6.5 inch or 5 inch on a baffle/spacer. Check out the two way stuff from Focal for around $200-250 per pair. Add in installation costs should see you around the $800 mark.

Price will depend on alot of things, there isn't just ONE top of the range unit...

Give us a few details so we can help you out:

- Brand

- Single/DOuble DIN

- Do you want Navigation

- Do you want ipod intergration

Sooo many things come into play, my advice would be to look at a few websites of a couple of your favourite brands and then post a few model numbers on here so we can give you feedback on which one would best suit you..

You will also have to consider the install, if you cant do it yourself!

30psi is for 70 years old, or very slow drivers. for younger slow driver 32-33psi. if you're agressive and rectless 34-35psi :)

for me even at 32psi i found the tyre still roll when making a slightly agressive turn. i use 33psi.

What are you after? More bass? Clearer music?

I'd just get a basic headunit with pre outs. Then get a set of alpine type s splits. The doors will fit 6.5 without any modifications. All you need to do is drill 4 new holes to mount the speakers in. If you want bass as well you'll have to think about a sub. A set of 6x9 in the parcel shelf will give some and be cheaper too if you don't want to go to the sub route but it won't be any where as good.

Installing the headunit and speakers would also be easy.
