I want to get some glass etched, but I thought "why pay someone else to do it?". Anyone here have experience with glass etching? Any tips?

I was going to go by these sites

And if I stuff up

What I plan to etch is some lettering, so pretty fiddly stuff with lots of corners.

Dave, you can also get 'glass etch' vinyl cut from a sign writer too. 3M does a range of 'etching' vinyls from light to heavy, and a slight metallic one too. Sticks bloody well, specifically made for glass. And, you can always take it off later. Generally the film is very thin too. If your mainly doing text, i would suggest to go this way, far better letter shapes than can be cut by hand.

Just a thought....

This stuff sounds very interesting! I have never heard of it before.

It's like a tattoo for your car and definitely has that sorta "no going back" feel.

^ Nah, I had no intention of doing it to my car windows; but you do raise an interesting idea for people who want something different. Obviously you can't do it to the tinted side of the glass :P

Someone else was telling me that some places do a laser etching which might also get a nice sharp edge to want I want to do.

Dutchie: The stickers idea would also be handy to see how I like it as the glass itself will need to be custom cut and I don't want to stuff it up.
