Prius Multi Function Display problem

I'm wondering if anyone can offer advise on this. I have a 2004 Prius with 80000 km on the clock. Last week the Multi Function Display screen went blank. The screen still responds to touch (i.e. it beeps) but obviously I can't see where the buttons are. The screen tries to start up when I start the car but is fuzzy and then quickly fades. I've spoken to Toyota who are quoting me $3400 for the part never mind labour. Does anyone know of a place where you can get these repaired? I've come across one guy in the states but was looking for someone here in Aus. Or maybe somewhere that I might be able to source a second hand unit. Can't quite bring myself to spend $3400 on a car this old but also know it will affect resale value.

Thanks for your response and for the link. I think that the problem is slightly different. Mine isn't doing what is described here... this is more that the unit responds sluggishly and some functions stop working. Mine still works well but the screen is completely blank! I have to the guy at autobeyours and I could potentially get a replacement unit (refurbished) from the states. That seems like the best option at the moment. Many thanks for your help.
