Time for New Clutch

Evo7

Recommended Posts

hey everyone,

just wanting to know what are people's opinions and recommendations for myself to get a new clutch for the 1z?

I have been researching, and it seems the Exedy Sports Tuff HD with Organic Disc is a common choice... I have been to my local clutch specialist and they informed me that for the applications I require (Daily driven and fun on weekends) that I should go with an Exedy Sports Tuff HD with Cushion button clutch and allowable slip for traffic. (Part No. TYK-6932 HDCB)

Thoughts on this?

Also need to know, what are the thoughts and experiences of those with a lightweight flywheel? mountains hard to get up? problems at idle? less driveable? etc...

Thanks guys,

Evo

a button clutch is the last thing you want. Clutch supplier must have rocks in their head.

Buy a 2zz organic heavy duty kit. This is basically a 1zz organic "Super heavy duty" kit.

It's what pippy runs on his turbo 1zz without issue, and that makes a lot more power and torque than your engine.

I'd stick with the stock flywheel, if you do go with a light flywheel I'd steer clear of the fidanza alloy items and go with a chromoly one instead. You shouldn't experience any noticable idle issues or trouble going up hills.

You might find it's cheaper to buy a kit from MWR in the states compared to the prices you're likely to be charged locally for a HD 2zz exedy kit.

Hey EVO

I have to agree with CHA54. Of all the stories I have heard about button clutches nobody I know has been happy with the drivability on the road. Great for the drags but that is about all. If you want some really good advice call Nick's Performance Clutches in Archerfield. He knows everything that is worth knowing about clutches and related stuff. He actually manufactures flywheels and multiplate clutch kits for all sorts of cars but I do like the 2ZZ HD suggestion though. I would think that to be an easier option all round.

Hope all goes well for the swap

Regards

i deal with doug at NPC on a daily basis through work buying clutches and highly recommend buying from him, when you are talking to him also mention upgrading to the TRD clutch cover it will give u a more predictable pedal feel(slightly heavier though),and also i sent you a pm about some other things to mention to him if your interested
