did 200 include the new tip?

If you've had no welding experience before, what sort of welder are you using? ARC, MIG, TIG?

Wouldn't suprise me if you just blow holes in the muffler.

Welding with an old stick welder is a real challenge. I have one and have tried to weld plain exhaust tube on the Celica and blew through a dozen or more times even though I used to fit exhausts for a living. You would need to use a mig or tig to do this successfully. $200.00 seems to be a ripoff to me unless you had an 8 inch pipe to fit. LOL

Have you thought about maybe getting a decent stainless clamp to hold it on? You would need to slit the end peice to make it tighten onto the original which I did on my old Fairlane. It was on there for about 5 years and didn't come off. When you fit it just make sure the nuts are facing to the side and if possible slightly up so they can't be seen from behind.

All this may be useless if you have an oval shaped exhaust tip though.

Hood luck
