I don't feel so bad now .....Was quoted $820 for 80,000 kms service by Brisbane dealer on my RAV4 Cruiser Auto .The work strictly as per the service book... no extras.

Still seems expensive.Might get quotes from other car service companies to compare.

wholly bajeesus! makes me glad i signed up for the 'advantage priced services'

I think that runs out at 3 years or at 60,000km (whichever happens first). The 80,000km is not part of the advantage servicing from memory

Actually you are technically wrong. It's the first 6 services that are capped.

This is what the Toyota maintenance guide for my 2008 says is required for the 50,000 mile service:

50,000 Miles or 60 months

Replace engine oil and oil filter

Rotate tires

Visually inspect brake pads/discs

Additional Maintenance Items for Special Operating Conditions

Driving on dirt roads or dusty roads:

Inspect ball joints and dust covers

Inspect drive shaft boots

Inspect engine air filter

Inspect steering linkage and boots

Re-torque drive shaft bolt (4WD)

Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis

Driving while towing:

Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis

That's it! There is no way this could possibly cost $1000 or even $800! Now of course the dealer will try to sell you injector cleaning, cooling system flush and anything else they can think of to make more money. Ask them if TOYOTA requires it, and if they say yes, ask to see it in writing.

Hey guys I work for a Toyota dealership so I can explain the price.

For 80k service its pretty expensive, especially 4wd vehicles.

These are the things that gets changed

Oil

Oil filter

Fuel filter

Spark plugs

Air filter

Possible brake fluid

Diff oil

Transfer oil

Rotate and balance

And general inspection

It's a lot of work to do and all the costs are calculated at dealership hourly rates which vary from one place to another.

If you guys want to do it cheaper I'd approach other work shops or you could always contact me =p

Hope that helps.

My next service is the 80k as well, they quoted me about $700ish from memory, i have it in my book. The thing is, my last service was just 3 months ago and i had only done 35k. In the past 3 months i have almost driven 10k! The sticker tells me not to come back at 80k. What do you think?
