Hiya Folk,

Want to add power windows and cruise control to my 2003 Corolla Ascent....pretty certain the wiring should already be there...should be simple process of plugging all the required bits in and away we right????

Well would help if knew apart from the power window motors and switches what else I need.....heard regarding cruise control you can just plug in the stalk and it works.....but really can it be that simple or am I going down a path that is a world of pain..??

what body shape is your car and southafrican or japanese built?

Japan Spec Sedan.....sorry didn't include those details earlier....managed to sort of get the door trim off, just forgotten how to get the current window winder off. There is a spare connector there so am assuming that has to do with the power windows....

The reason I figure cruise control should almost be installed is that most modern cars are computerised so things like actuator arms and stuff like that should not longer be required with the cruise control....

ok, i have played around with power windows a bit and the easiest option for you would be to get the front only ones out of an accent, you will need switches from both sides motors from both sides and the complete door wiring loom for both sides, the spare plug you are seeing is it up next to the one that goes to the electric mirror? its for an extra tweeter speaker. the door looms are completely different in manual and elec models.

So when you get all of it you will have to get it from a japanese model and make sure it is a non facelift like yours, facelifts have all auto up+down and prefacelift have only drivers auto up+down, but they are not interchangeable.

when it comes to rears they have different motors for different body shapes but the fronts in the japanese built ones they interchange

just remember prefacelift and facelift are different!

you will have a hole where your window winder was too but just mount a tweeter over it!

what colour is your interior trim?

as for cruise control, aftermarket..... wow sight and sound do a few kits and install.

To get the window winder off grab a chux wipe fold it a couple of times and slide the edge of it between the winder and the plastic ring behind it and pull it around and around until it grabs the edge of the clip and it will pull it off,

Well I have the lovely beige interior, plan is to make a lot more of it either black or dark grey.....not sure how hard it is to redo the carpets etc.....just with the tinted windows thinking of getting the beige will look a bit daggy so that will get the hole covered....a tweeter speaker so that is what goes in the area behind the wing mirror.....may have to get one of those and put it there....

Will try out the idea with the chux.....did try that...has to been an easier way thou lol.....

I thought as much as with the power windows....that at least the plug for the wiring loom should be there etc....will get the door trim off and look into....

With the cruise, could do aftermarket but I think the Corolla is not drive by wire is it.....all computerised and would want to try to use the Toyota stalk...my experience with Toyota is they pretty much install it but leave off the switch and maybe one other component....

I am just about to do the fog lights but the last wally owner cut the end of the plugs off so it means I have to find the plugs, am planning to visit wreckers on that score....

hi phoenixrolla

the fly by wire was only installed from 2005 (as i wanted to get cruise in my 2004 rolla) so you cant just plug the toyota stalk in. Best way to go is aftermarket where it attatches to the accelerator cable.
