Hey everyone, just wondering is replacing the crank shaft seals a

difficult job or can it be done with relative ease? and how pricey

are new seals?

Piece of p*ss mate,you dont really tell us what engine we are talking about and if its the front or rear seal,so I take it we are talking about the rear.If it is a knock in seal some actually live in a plate surrounding the crank,so its just a matter of removing the plate,knock out the old seal and tap in the new seal.Drive it in as square as you can useing a large socket or a piece of pipe etc,something which is going to put the weight on the outside circumference.Dont be tempted to be a bodgie brother and take to it with a big hammer and belt the crap out of it as it will distort and leak like a bitch.If it isnt contained by a plate,dont panic just remove the old seal from its seat and using a brass or copper drift tap it home very gently,SQUARELY slowly a whisker at a time,the same as you would if replacing a seal on a front wheel hub.

Now if you have a two half seal system where one half lives above the crank and the other half is contained by the sump,I wont go there as i reckon its one of the two mentioned above.

Go to the wreckers and look for your motor and check out exactly what type of rear seal retention you have.

While you have the gearbox out check out the state of your clutch /pressure plate,have the flywheel machined,good chance to freshen it up,as you can bet some of that oil would of found its way onto the clutch.Just a little tip if your crank is grooved from the old seal,try and reseat the new one so it runs on a fresh part of the crank,it might mean keeping it only 30-40 thou from being fully seated,mate its not a big job,but if you dont feel confident dont do it,ask someone who is capable of doing it PROPERLY,take it easy mate;;;;;;;

Hi mate if it's front seal and it's the older kluger you'd have to pull out timing belt and other belts to access it. If its rear seal gear box removal is part of it.

If its new kluger they don't use timing belt but it's still a load of work for people who aren't in the trade. If its rear seal then gesr box removal is inevitable.

If you can remove and refit gear box your self then it isn't a big task. If its too much work than leave it to a professional like my self.
