LED for low and high beam, advices

Recommended Posts

Lexus is using LED for low beam

http://www.lexus.com.au/ls600hl/style/exterior

I am thinking can I put LED for my low beam or high beam?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xenon-WHITE-68-SMD-H3-BULBS-Car-LED-DRL-High-Beam-Light-/330583359100?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4cf84dbe7c#ht_6860wt_1112

In that ebay, it said "Please do NOT use LED bulbs on low beam beacuse light output of LED is very intense but not broad enough for low beam"

but my car is using projector based headlight, is there any relationship with it?

They are cheap as well

I cannot find pictures regarding the comparsion of LED low beam..I can only find the following on the scooter

explains more

Ben, there is no way you could use those ebay smd lights for driving in the dark, they are used as DRLs in high beam location.

Making your own SMD/LED "useable" lights is quite a difficult task. The chips do need considerable heat sinks, and the larger chips are quite expensive to just play with.

DIY LED headlights are pretty much a pipe dream at the moment. Like dutchie has said, it would cost too much to make it yourself and it would probably work out less efficient than HID's.

Those LED's on eBay are barely even efficient to use for your reverse lights. I use a pair like them (122 LED) for my fog lights and they are only good for DRL. I have torches that project more light than them. I put them into my (projector) headlights for a laugh, and laughing I did.
