Fuel gauge accuracy

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone is having the same frustration, the trip computer on my 2011 200 series sahara is consistantly over conservative in indiacting my range. A full tank 138 litres indicates just 756km and when the gauge indicates a range of just 45kms there is still 25-30 litres in the tank, which at 13l/100m should give me at least 200km.

any body had the same issue?

I can only talk from experience with my Aurion, but I believe it is written somewhere that Toyota like a certain percentage of fuel to be in the car at all times for various reason. Therefor the gauge might not be a true representation as to how much fuel is left in the car but it is likely an accurate representation as to how much fuel is left until the Toyota minimum is reached.

Thanks but 25/30 litres seems a bit to conservative

Does the Sahara have a trip computer? (I assume it does since it gives you range until empty) It may be adjustable, where you set the size of the tank to create a provision for a 'reserve'. Some cars will allow you to set the tank size to a specific number, eg: 50 Litres. From a full tank, once 50 Litres have been used, the trip computer would read that distance to empty is 0, but there is still 10/20/30+ Litres in the tank.
