About to embark on a trip towing a light weight 1000kg caravan - who out there has been towing with their hilux ?

I'm wondering the same thing myself, but mines a '93 with 2.8D, much less powerful than yours, and its a 21ft Caravan, I dont think it can do it, uphills or an incline it will struggle.. What length Caravan is yours?

Hi CMD, good choice of tow tug.Yes mate I tow a dual axle 16ft pop top (1180kg tare) with our SR 4.0V6

5 speed auto.It produces 376NM of torque @ 2400rpm and holds it there to 4800rpm.Its a 5 speed auto but I tow in 4th,sits on a sweet spot of 2500 rpm @100km/h,which is right in the torque curve and pulls like a tractor. At around 75km/h-80km/h the clutch in the torque converter locks up ,so if I tow at 90-95km/h I know the clutch is locked up and its not open producing heat.On the flat it just runs along with minimum throttle and on an incline only requires small throttle increases to unlock the torque converter. It pulls the hills easy,I never kick it back or floor it.Yours being a diesel (3.0 litre turbo common rail )produces the same torque but at a low 1400rpm.You wont even know its on the back .If you have the factory towbar it is rated @2250kg with a 225kg ball weight. happy holidays mate
