Custom aurion Tail lights (Finished)

Recommended Posts

Thought since a few have shown interest i'd get this up asap.

This light mod takes slightly bigger balls then the others, purely cause you gotta cut these things open,.

No biggy work wise , just not as non intrusive as blinkers and headlights but the reward if you get it right is really some thing special imo.

I changed the patern slightly from the first prototype. I recon this has a meaner look spiteful.gif

Anyways take a deep breath and time to mod. Some light modders use hot knifes and sonic station,. Dremel was my tool.

I wanted 3/4 rings for the overlap mean look,

More cutting. This is all just mock-up for now so i can see what rings shapes i like best.

Using a 80mm inner ring 110 middle and 120mm outer ring,.

No i know how i want to set the rings i'll get to making this a bit more perm.

Putting blanks over the old light holes, this is proper matt black polycarb sheet but easy to cut and bend.

IMG_5410.jpg

IMG_5411.jpg

To fix the rings in place i'll use some sexy clear plastic screws , these are non conductive and easily cut to length and should almost be undetectable.

IMG_5413.jpg

Small holes drilled in the rings.

Same done for the smaller inner ring and cover back on to test.

IMG_5427.jpg

Ive decided to run what was the reverse light as part of the blinker! this will make a full "wrap around style" blinker, should look cool.

Testing with just a bulb shows it won't work. So if you can follow the next few pictures what i will do is simply swap the white strip for an amber strip. (hopefully pick them up on saturday)

That just leaves the Reverse Lights , these will now be put in on a second strip in the same area as the blinker.

Again, great work!

What do you think of the white colour of the rings tho?

My thoughts are put tiny balls of blu-tak on the smd lenses as a simple mask, and paint the rings sliver to hide them a little more.... removing the blu-tak once the paint drys obviously! :D

Cheers Pete, can't wait till tomorr to pu the new anmber light strips.

I did try "texta" black :) but found it darkens the lights! turns them kinda purple :( you might be right with silver tho.

Will pu a can tomoz for a try :)

Again just another mockup for the outer light,

But pretty much shows the final result :)

i'd had a test at adding extra red lights to the side but it looked a bit too bling.

What was i saying???!!!! sorry Pete you must have thought i was on drugs :P It's white LED's it turns purple-ish. Dosn't effect RED at all :)

Did as you stated and looks waaaay better, also finally finished one side wired and sealed ready for installation :D

I decided to add the stepdown resistor inside the main light and chuck a "remote" over to the boot light.

The Value for the step down resistor was chosen.... well because i had 2 left over from another mod and they worked :D

Also decided to try and intergrate as much of the original harness and plugs as possible. The only mod to the harness will be adding cutting the power to the boot lights and adding

the "remote" wire in it's place.

Should get them in this weekend!

Now with "blackened" rings.

Custom Step down board. Very simple nothing special the 5W resistor drops the tailight power, then when brakes

are applied the power drops in after the resistor and supplies full 12v

Using standard plugs keeps things nice and simple for installation.

i'm continually impressed with your level of skill!!! well done mate. they look great!

Thanks heeps mate :) appreciate it.

Decided while the car's off the road i'd finally add some new blinker modules.

They run 27 Cree superflux led's and these things are super bright, they carve through the tint nps day or night.

New module

Just updating this thread with the new tail lights (I know most here have seen the completed versions in the other thread)

Ive installed a new custom ring cluster with extra rings to the outer lights. The idea is to make even more light when using the brakes.

Also designed them in layer form to give depth to the light. Cleaned up the inner boot lights added better protection and step down.

And re-designed the blinker assembly , just to simplify it with no soo many LED's needed.

The new array in the housing

17-2.jpg

18-2.jpg

New circuit board with step downs and diode for revers voltage.

19-1.jpg

The boot lights have been re built with satin black inners and fresh coat of satin black. The Dark tint is being replaced with a much lighter shade.
Being able to see inside the lights now means everything has to look pro.

20-1.jpg

21-2.jpg

22-2.jpg

23-1.jpg

This now look just like before with the rings

25-1.jpg

but when brakes are on there is a much more noticeable difference.

In fact it's pretty dam intense.... that's a crap load of light blasting from the rear of the car even with the darkest tint.

26.jpg

Few mandatory night shots :)

IMG_2195.jpg

IMG_2215.jpg

Poor qual as the camera struggles to focus with the added light.

One more update :D

Ive been playing around some more with the design, trying to add different ideas.

A mate asked to do a set for his Commodore and I came up with a main idea and a few variants

This pic shows how the rings are powered from the back rather than joining all the wires... a bridge is made from solid wire.

IMG_2472.jpg

Second bridge added and the biggest outer ring is wired separate.

IMG_2474.jpg

This array runs 9 rings! where mine uses 5. The extra 3 rings combine a Amber (yellow) ring to act as blinker

And a white ring to act as a revers lights.

Just like my lights, A single light runs normal.

IMG_2481.jpg

When brakes applied

IMG_2487.jpg

Using blinker

IMG_2482.jpg

Reversing

IMG_2484.jpg

Again Variants can be added to change the design or suit a different tail light.
