Aux Input for 2009 Kluger Grande

Hi,

I have recently purchased a 2009 Kluger Grande AWD after owning a 2007 Kluger KX-S 2WD.

The KX-S had an AUX input jack so I could connect my iPhone to the stereo to play my music.

I have noticed that this AUX input jack is not available on the DVD/SatNav/stereo of the Grande.

Has anyone found a way, hopefully not too expensive, around this?

Thanks in great anticipation.

Regards to All

Matt

Hi guys .Iam in the same boat aswell, my kxs has the factory sat nav fitted and also doesnt have the input socket for a ipod, which I find unusal, because when I test drove other klugers before I bought mine, they had the standard head unit and had input socket, so why toyota didnt put a input socket on there sat nav head units and up spec models, is beyond me, especialy if you paid all that money for a grande, so yeah I would like some feed back to, personally I dont think its actually possible with these particular head units, I think only way is to change the head unit, but I wont be doing that, so look forward with some feed back :)

Hi Jonathan and David,

I have some news regarding this wonderful oversight by Toyota.

I think we can all feel each others' frustrations here. We bought the top of the range Kluger, only to find the basic of functionality missing...

I have done some research and have found a unit that is installed behind the dash and is plugged into the satnav unit. It is called a "Tranzlt IS77" and it is by isimple Solutions. The website is below.

http://www.isimplesolutions.com/universal-solutions-TranzIt-IS77.aspx

It retails in the US for around $90, but I found mine on eBay for much less. Basically it is an FM Modulator, and it requires an FM frequency to operate. I have programmed mine and have set a preset station for it. You can either have a rather thick iPod cable protruding out to connect and charge your iPhone/iPod/iPad etc, OR, you can have a 3.5mm aux jack that connects your iPod etc to play music through the satnav/stereo unit, but the iPod etc will not charge. There is also an on/off switch that needs to be switched on for this to work.

What I have done with my setup, is put the aux jack in the available decal next to the seat warmer switches under the aircon unit at the top of the shifter console, which I notice the new Grande has the same, with the on/off switch on the side of the console near the glove box. You could put this switch in the glove box itself, but I figured I'd prefer it to the side of the console so I have easy access to it. I only switch mine on when I'm playing music from my iPhone, otherwise I keep it switched off, as I have found that the FM reception is slightly compromised.

I got the guys at JB Hifi to install mine, but if you're handy with things like that, you'll be able to install it yourself, as the instructions are excellent. Just be careful opening up the dash, as the plastic is soft.

So, there it is, a solution to our woes. Pity Toyota didn't think of this...

All the very best to you both

Regards

Matt

Cheers mathew, thats a good bit of gear it will be a darn lot cheaper than replacing the head unit, I bought one of the cheap modulators to run the ipod, I found it would lose reception when in different areas or going around a corner, so something like this wood be great and would help other kluger and other toyota owners with the same problem with the sat nav head unit.

Thanks again mattew, I will look into it.

Hi guys,

I installed a year ago a unit called SoundLinq2 SL2i-UP, the brand is VAIS TECHNOLOGY. This is a unit that goes inside the head unit and connects directly into the SatNav unit, and run an ipod cable through the glove box where you connect your iPod or iPhone. It charges it and at the same plays all your music through the car sound system. You can actually operate the system through the buttons in the steering wheel and audio system, and displays all your songs information, playlists, etc. Because is wired directly to the in car sound system, the sound quality is as good as playing a CD in the CD player (which is sh#$%t anyway because Toyota's sound system in the Kluger Grande (top of the range!!!) is really poor).

I was so frustrated not being able to play my iPod in the car, and didn't want to go with other devices as you would loose the functionality of the buttons in the steering wheel, that this unit has been a game changer for me. It was a bit dear at $480 installed at my place, but worth every penny of it.

I have a 2009 KX-R with the satnav. Wanted to add the aux. From all I could find, there should be a 'Mini Jack' cable attached at the back of the unit. Black cable with grey connector at one end, & blue at the other. After removing my head unit, I found it wasn`t there, even though it is included in both the parts list & the fitting instructions for the fitting kit. Contacted the selling dealership regarding it`s whereabouts, but they weren`t interested.

From what I can gather you need

Cable PZQ60-00200AC, about $50, [if it`s not already fitted] &

Aux adaptor 86190-53010, about $75

so about $125 all up

Bloody ripoff, but not a lot of choice to do otherwise
