Can anyone help, I got a Toyota towbar off a 04 corolla wagon and am attempting to put it on my corolla sedan. Problem is, it looks like I will need to take off the exhaust but how?? It looks like it also has a thin metal covering over the exhaust that is attached to the chassis and I think I have to remove that in order for the bolts from the tow bar to be attach to the chassis. any help would be appreciated

here is the tow bar, all the bolts line up with the holes in the chassis, just that the exhaust is in the way.

Correct !

You have to remove the heat shield and drill a clearance hole in it

(or something like that)

There is a flange near the rear axle which will enable the muffler to be removed (undo 2 nuts/bolts)

I think I still have the instructions which I could fax to you if you like ?

Thanks for your advice, just jacked the car up and had a good look, looks like I have to remove the rear bumper as well to get the bolts through the chassis tubing? looks like a bit of a mission, but will give it a go, thanks for offering to fax, but in NZ, if you have a scanned copy that would be great reece@woosh.co.nz

Yeah I think I need to drill a bigger hole in the heat shield for two bolts to fit through. Question, would the tow bar be attached directly to the chassis and then the heat shield to the tow bar? or the other way around?

Looking at the exhaust it looks like it is welded to the chassis, look at pic 3, there is a bit of metal welded to the exhast which is attached to some black rubber thing? Any ideas on how to remove the exhaust?

Cheers!

The mounting hooks are welded/bolted to the chassis.

Put some Olive/Vegetable Oil on the rubbers and they will slide off easy.

The Seca definitely has a flange which can be unbolted.

Will try to scan and email to you today.

Cheers
