hi all, ill TRY keep it short and sweet!

my 2000 celica is leaking engine oil from the rear of the motor on the driver side ( passenger side for the U.S). the oil drips are quite insignificant at the moment with only a small amount leaking on the garage floor, but a leak is a leak and i want it fixed. ive tried my hardest to find the source of the leak but i just cant squeeze my head in well enough to see where it is coming from as the engine bay with the 2zz motor is pretty tight! the car only has 116k KMS on the clock (72k MILES) and is regularly serviced so it doesnt make that a seal is on its way out already, but from the area that ive isolated it to, it looks like its the crank pulley or seal....

if anybody has had a similiar leak with their 2zz could you please tell me what your problem was. i will be taking the car to a mechanic but i atleast want to find the source myself. also before anyone asks, no the car hasnt had any major bumps or hits to the underside of the car or in general and yes i have checked the oil filter and sump plug to see if they were leaking.

many thanks!

Andrew

Is the oil getting on the belt and making it slip and squeak?

You might need to remove the plastic trays under the engine to find the leak.

Is the oil level falling on the dip stick or in the power steering oil container?

My 2200 camry started leaking engine oil and it was the oil filter came loose.

If it is coming from the crank pulley it'll be the front seal. In which case the timing chain cover will need to come off. Probably replace the timing chain cover seal at the same time. Parts will be pretty cheap, like $20. But labour would probably be about $600. Depends on how long it takes the mechanic to remove all the accessories/engine mount and put them back on again.
