Ok so I bought a toyota celica 1991 from a dealer, they also put 3 month rego and blue slip on the car for the price.

I have put the car in for blue slip this week and it failed on leaking steering rack and 4 bald edges on the tyres.

The garage said that the rack would have been leaking even when the car was bought and should not have been passed by the garage as they have sold a car without being road legal.

Heres the question, should the dealer and garage be responsible for the repairs? as with a rack and 4 tyres I may as well buy another car!

Did you buy it from out of state? Not sure why it would require a blue slip unless it was several months out of rego or from out of state...

The Garage is only protecting their business. They found defects and not passed the car.

How long ago did you buy the car. I believe in NSW, a vehicle bought from a Dealer automatcially comes with 3 months warranty. So if still within the 3 months, I would take the car back to the Dealer to fix the problem with the rack. The tyres will be at your cost, as tyres are not normally covered.
