New Corolla hit on rear bumper. Best repair process

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I drive a Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport Sedan, purchased March 2012. I got hit on the rear whilst stationary at a traffic light. The other party has insurance and has lodged a claim.

What is the procedure when repairing? Could I insist on sending it to the Toyota dealership, or do I have to accept whom the other insurance send it to?

Also in terms of the damage on the bonnet, what is the call with regards to replacing it with a new one and panel beating it back to original form?

PS: I am new to the forum, apologies if this has been placed in the wrong section.

Since you're not at fault, and the other party lodges a claim throught their insurance, you have the advantage of going to whichever repairer you desire. I was recently involved in the exact same situation, and I was free to bring the car anywhere I want. As long as it's not through your insurance, it's not a hassle.

If it's just damage to the rear bumper along with some internal damage, then the bumper will be replaced along with repairing and repainting the chassis. I'd suspect that that's the first resort the insurance will pursue since the car is practically still brand new, and the reapirs will be below the cost of replacing the car itself.
