Sounds awful. When auto changes from second gear to drive and not under load, get a big heavy thump, almost a bang when it changes. Not sure if its the diff, tranny or what, but its not nice. Don't have the problem when it's under load and changing.

Any of your thoughts would be greatly appreciated on what it could be and possible ways to overcome. Dealership " not sure" ?

Cheers

Steve

Check your uni joints and diff.... if its not clunking under load it doesn't sound like the gearbox...

Toyota diffs are known to be strong so i would focus my attention to the uni joints on the driveshaft

Thanks for the input. Had a little play with the tail shaft and uni's look and feel okay but will replace anyway. Know very little about differentials.
