Hi Richard,

Sorry i took so long to update to you about my clock issue. I have good new, i finally fixed it and it didnt require a second hand clock. I came across the answer searching youtube one day, i saw a post about fixing the Camry clock by refreshing the soldering join on the clock circuit board. I gave it a try and it worked! Pay close attention to resistor 12R0, there are four of them. Good luck Richard.

Hey,

The youtube video is for a corrola not for camry. It not too hard to do, just need to find a soldiering iron and lead. Just touch up resistor 12R0

I guess the only hard part is the six star shape screws which you can try to open using a flat head. However, your clock might have an entire different problem and resoildering might not fix it. Be adventurous and have a go, it your car, you can break it. Good luck

Hey guys, I brought my camry about 3 months ago.

When I got it the clock wasn't displaying anything.

I did my research online and soldering the old points as these models have a problem with displaying as we all know, toyota won't fix it even if it's a known issue.

So I thought about doing it until it worked twice randomly first time on a long drive it displayed for about 45 seconds, the second time for a full day and hasn't displayed since.

So maybe wiring or joints still.

So how do you get it out?

Do you have to remove to CD player to get clock unit out?

Hi Murray, from what you have described sound like your clock have a bad solder joint. Taking the clock off in a camry 2002-2006 is not hard at all, just youtube it. Once you have your clock out just resolder any joint you can see. Hope that help you.

Okay so ive got a 2005 model and it was different to the video above.

I took photos of what i did to get it done wasnt to hard and it worked.

To open it start from the bottom of the cd area as shown in picture.

Then it should pop out slowly pull it out.

Then disconnect the clock and speed alert wires.

Then undo to phillip head screws to remove from console case.

Once removed then remove 6 im not sure what there called hexagon screws i guess

Then check all the chips. I had no idea what to look for.

Then i noticed these four chips had a brownish tinge to it so i touched them up.

Then tested it and worked.

Ive never used a soldering iron before it wasnt that hard.

Just becareful with the little clips on the clock case as i broke two out of four.

Thank you Muz bar.

First, I have checked the fuse (you can find the location of clock fuse in the manual).

Second, I have bought the soldering iron kit and solder silver in Bunning ($17 + $5), and 22pce screwdriver set for $5 with small hectagon tools.

Third, I have re-assembled the unit (approx 15 mins)

Fourth, I have found those 3 resistors and carefully applied the soldering silver from both sides (one side, 15 sec interval, second side, etc)

Fifth, I have assemled the clock/speed alarm unit (15 mins) and enjojed with working clock and speed alarm.

I called wreckers and they told me that Camry's clocks is a common problem. Their advice was to buy a second hand unit for $50-$100 and find the auto electrician (from $150 for the replacement only).

Can confirm this works (deleted pics from quote to save room). I've never soldered before but have seen others do it and I managed to do it just then, can pick up a soldering iron for $21 at SCA and a small roll of solder for $8. Look for a hex set as well, improvising was not easy.

What four chips?  I have the same problem but can't see what your refering to?

there are 4 larger surface mount resistors on the clock circuit board. these often get dry joints at the ends. if you carefully resolder these joints the clock works again.

Just did it to mine and it is working again.

An update, I did try resoldering the 4 resistors but my clock still had the problem of being extremely dim. I then went ahead and reheated all the big joints (including display connections) using my solder iron and the clock is working fine now. Try resoldering all joints if just doing it for the resistors don't work.

The part is referred to in the user manual as the multi-information display. also referred to in the service/repair manual as the clock assembly (CLOCK ASSY).

I have a 2006 Camry that was my Parents car up until they bought a new car recently, the clock/overspeed display wasn't working when I got the car, but you do get a beep when you press the up and down buttons for the speed alert setting, it also emits beeps when I go over 100Km/h and continues to beep periodically until my speed drops below 100, so the alert still functions, after reading the other posts on this site, I was wondering if anyone else has the same symptoms with their clock/overspeed unit, and could the components also mentioned in other posts be the cause of this?

Footnote: Clock/speed alert display is now working, took the unit out of the dash and could see the signs of dry solder joints on the resistors mentioned in the other posts here as soon as I took it apart, re-soldering them did the trick, hopefully I won't have any further problems with it.

Why those resistors ? Did you measure those resistors before re-soldering ? My measurement is 12 ohm each and 36 ohm for 3 of them (in series). But I still run hot solder iron tip across those resistor connection points and  it works.
