The type of fuel filter which is recommended for my car is the Ryco Z424. However there is a Ryco multifit fuel filter which is the Z441 which says it replaces the Z424 along with a few other filters. Apparently they're the same filter with different brackets but I'm not sure if it will work or not because I've never changed a fuel filter before.

Here are the 2 filters:

Z441 (multifit): http://www.allpartsautomotive.com.au/COBOL/PICS/Z441.JPG

Will the multifit work?

I'd have to agree, go with the recommended. From the links you posted it would appear the outlet sizes are different, the multifit is M14 and the Ryco is M12 so that would pose a problem on it's own. :g:
